I'm trying to learn more within my field of study, but there seems to be incoming barriers of inaccessibility now that I'm post-undergrad. There's the imminent event of my college email getting closed keeping me from scholarly sources and the sheer price of academic books. Frustrating stuff

While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI:

At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.

I struggled with going to sleep, so I decided to start modeling a new vampiric low-poly character. At the moment there's no story to go along with them - perhaps an activity for another sleepless night.

I love when developers add references to the development of the game to the game!! It's one of my favorite things to stumble across, but my favorite version of this is unlocking access to concept art and seeing how ideas evolved.
I want to take a moment you congratulate all my friends for such wonderful tracks! Come check out the music museum and vibe to some truly wonderful chip tunes!

When did game studies start? & what & WHO is at the core of game studies? Fields are defined as much by what they are NOT as by what they are & their borderlands can be hotly contested spaces.

The Heir That Never Was has officially been released!

I've learned so much from this project & I hope to take this world even further in the future - perhaps even with the same characters. It's been absolute pleasure.

Play it here:

After watching people play my game at the exhibition, I learned that people prefer when the NPC name tags stay while interacting with them. Now, do I keep them in the same spot or move it downwards to the dialogue box?

Is it insulting to call one game a "clone" of another for simply sharing similar gameplay mechanics?
June 8, 2025 at 8:27 AM
So, I'm not sure if I prefer the NPCs keeping or losing their name tag while entering into dialogue? I'll have to ask some playtesters how they feel about it tomorrow.

During the beta playtest, it was suggested that all of the NPCs use their own dedicated camera that activates when dialogue happens, while the main camera is temporarily disabled. After implementing the change, my main goal is to complete the rest of the dialogue system

I finally got around to customizing my itch page, so now it's not just a boring blank space!! I think it feels a little more professional now too. Plus, it showcases my next game in the banner :)

I'm probably working out-of-order, but I went ahead and created more low-poly kobold heads for the NPCs character models. I'll probably create two more models and then stop.

It's time that I bring my games into the third dimension!

After playing around with a few ideas, I'm planning on merging the two best concepts into a singular game:

Curse of House Solstheim - a 3D murder-mystery

@freethink wrote an excellent article about indie game development that is definitely worth reading. Also, you might recognize a game that's mentioned in it...

So, I've decided to move away from the maze game that I developed in my previous project. It was helpful in learning scene changing and barrier, but in this next project I want to refocus on character interaction through triggers.

What if a game didn't tell its story directly? In order to gain inspiration about abstract games, I began playing a small handful on Itch.

Without a doubt, the top-down dungeon crawler remains my favorite video game genre. I usually credit PMD: RRT (GBA) for introducing me to the genre; however I remembered that I technically played Gauntlet (NES) first - actually, it was one of the very first games I ever played.

Today marks the release of my very first text-based narrative game! "The Green Knight's Game" an adaptation of Sir Gawain & the Green Knight, complete with multiple endings.

Play it now: savosthemage.itch.io/the-green-kn...

And remember: A knight is sworn to valor & knows only virtue!

In order to develop a greater understanding of C#, I've decided to develop a text-based narrative game that adapts the Arthurian Legend of Sir Gawain & the Green Knight. Furthermore, I feel inspired by the knight's code from the Dragonheart (1996) movie! #SmallGameStudio4

As of recent, I've been curious about how to develop the narrative for my game, so I've been looking for inspiration through text-based games. The first of these that I played was "Queers in Love at the End of the World" (2013) by Anna Anthropy which had a cool timer mechanic.

Progress Update:

Iterating upon my previous character designs, I can finally unveil my fourth kobold model. The design heavily improves on aspects from the first few attempts. So far, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out - particularly with the horns. #SmallGameStudio3
