Deep Thought does not know the ultimate question to Life, the Universe and Everything, but offers to design an even more powerful computer, Earth, to calculate it. After ten million years of calculation, the Earth is destroyed by Vogons five minutes before the computation is complete.

Keith asked a nice question, and then I accidentally threaded. Oops.

I do feel sometimes that being a developer should be a perfect part-time job for a mum working from home - other times I feel like I just don't have the time to really sink in and think deeply and thoroughly about my work.
I think there's a larger story about being a woman and and working part time in tech...

Before I start let me say I have one of the husbands that truly steps up and does at least half if not more of the housework and child rearing.

BUT for reasons, it makes sense that I do drop offs and pick ups.

So @hl came through for my birthday and bought me this shirt!

Thankfully not *just* my armpits changed colour 😅

And it's a fun effect when you sprinkle or touch some cooler water onto it!

Hello fine #retrogaming folk - I just tried to install and run UAE4Arm on my Pixel 9a and it didn't seem to want to do the thing.

Specifically I want to play the original Lemmings and Populus and maybe James Pond 2: Robocod on my phone! Is it possible?

OK let's say I do finally decide to move my personal computer over to Linux - I have two questions:

Is it easy enough to run Windows inside a VM in Linux, if I want to test with NVDA or JAWS screen readers?

Which will be the simplest distro to go to, with the above in mind? It doesn't have to […]

I know this is a funny joke, and for a long time I scornfully saw e-bikes as "cheating", but honestly I think they've been a great thing for a lot of people.

I'll reply with things that we can thank e-bikes (and even those infernal scooters) for:
“So we asked ourselves: how could we make the common bicycle heavier, more dangerous and, ultimately, reliant on electricity”

According to this, instead of caving, Schumer was keeping the Democrat Senators holding fast, to keep the shutdown running just past the off-year elections that were won overwhelmingly by the Dems.

Elsewhere I've read that if they didn't end the shutdown soon, the as yet unsworn-in […]

Again I wake up to hundreds of aurora photos wondering why on earth my extremely online self saw no hint of this being a thing when I was scrolling last night past my bedtime.

Just a "go outside and look up" would have sufficed!

My head hurts. Trying to allow an empty string in a field where an email could go.

Zod validation generated from graphql - so even if I extend the zod input schema, graphql says no, that empty string isn't an email. Siiighh

Is this familiar to anyone and is there a way, other than leaving that […]

Finding this a super weird non-story.

Re my Dune reading lately - on book three and getting a little tired of the exposition, and where the characters keep being like "of course I know what X will do" as if the reader has already got it, but I haven't. I have to wait until a chapter or two later when someone explains themselves […]

Yeeep just looking up Young Cardamom on YouTube:

(This one also feeds into my current reading of Dune, hahah - spice! Also Dune is like a big cautionary tale against governments turning aristocratic or being based on religion.. Feels like a good read for these times.)

[Trump] says the election was "very democratic", and it wasn't "good for Republicans".

"But we had, an interesting evening and we learned a lot," he says.

"And we're going to talk about that and I'll say a few remarks, and then after that, I'll ask the press to leave."
