"The NICHD, which receives 4% of the total NIH budget, spent approximately 11% of its budget over the last decade on women’s health research unrelated to maternal-child health."

That's <0.5% of the budget for women's health outside of reproduction.

💬 Viewpoint: Despite women facing higher rates of chronic illness and unique gynecological disorders, federal health leaders have insufficiently prioritized women's health in chronic disease research.

This is right. We at #NIH would love lawmakers with power to more publicly show their support for us.

Hold prime-time hearings with fired employees. Go to hospitals and visit dying cancer patients harmed by the NIH attacks. Bring the Senate to a halt using procedural means. Act!
These scientists and public health workers are not comparable to lawmakers with power to actually make change at the policy level but instead writing letters.

It’s unprecedented to see this kind of rebellion inside agencies like NIH and EPA.
I want to remind people that these are not merely “strongly worded letters.”

These EPA and NIH workers are risking their careers—and possibly even their safety—to tell us what is happening inside their respective agencies.

The NIH reported its FY24 spending on women's health this week using revised methodology. By more transparently reporting the investment the support totals $3.1 billion ($4.6 billion was reported in FY23). This represents a little more than 6% of the total NIH budget. grants.nih.gov/news-events/...

Last night, Capitol Police arrested roughly 60 veterans and their family members outside the U.S. Capitol. The group had gathered to hold a peaceful sit-in on the Capitol steps, but police intentionally set up a barrier of bike racks to prevent them from demonstrating.

Trump NIH director Bhattacharya took to Twitter to spin the Bethesda Declaration.

We're here to point out his confusion and contradictions. 🫡

First, it is laughable for him to say he's removing ideology. Trump has inserted a rightwing ideology, stripping Harvard of science for ideological reasons.

One thing the MAHA report is seriously missing: connection to reality. You can’t tackle chronic illness while gutting the workforce that prevents it. Health departments hollowed out, $11b of directed federal support pulled, 20k jobs at health agencies eliminated.

“The appointment is significant because the institute has never had a political appointee other than the NCI director.”

More and more politicos are being given the keys to drive the narrative at NIH, and now the car is parked in NCI’s driveway. 🤞🏼 Doug Lowy stays in the driver’s seat

NIH is getting rotten to the core. If we have any reporters who follow us, this is our outcry to start looking into:

Andrew Nixon, Director of Comms at HHS
Laci Williams Deputy Director of Strategic Comms at NIH
Thomas Buckley, Director of Strategic Comms at NIH.

They’re the “let’s be clear” gang
