my relationship to Athens, Ohio is COMPLICATED but my relationship to The Athena is VERY straightforward, independent movie theater since 1915 and a gem for so many reasons.

this ad is one:
an earnestly but sloppily put-together flyer advertising the movies currently playing at The Athena with the explanation, "Our graphic designer just left, we're doing our best :) come see movies plz" It includes a drawing of a well-muscled man with dark skin and hair and the caption, "This is The Rock in The Smashing Machine. I can't draw hands but he does have hands & they're very strong."

today I learned that at this time of year, turtles are often crossing the road to lay eggs. Ian came across this autumn-yellow diva on a bike ride and read about how to help her cross the road.
