I post about good reads on my bookstagram, but I’m thinking about cross-posting here…

I’m so glad they are making all these drastic cuts, especially to the department of education, so we can pay for the billionaires’ tax cuts.
That’s *such* a great idea.

If there’s something to be happy about today (oh wait… it’s also my bday 😉), it’s the fact that my fav scheduled a Hershey PA date this year! ❤️❤️

Leaders… lead.
One of the most terrifying aspects of this tragedy in DC is that he obv doesn’t know how to lead.
Many horrid things happened in the last 10 days, but seeing this kind of incompetence over the most basic leadership action is like realizing the floor is missing and we are falling.

How are we taking action in our communities?
I reached out to my kids’ teachers to volunteer in any way to support them during this challenging time.
What are some other ways we can take bites? I refuse to let their #shockdoctrine overload me.

Feeling anxious? Might I suggest a walk, run, or … slog?
Today I needed to run through a wall.

I woke today with so much heaviness. My kids go to a very diverse school and I’m worried about their friends. I’m angry at the turn to ahistoricism. I’m angry about the removal of #DEI efforts. I have existential dread over the #environment. 😞
How is everyone else doing today?

Do not wait for a utopia to enjoy the life you are living today - the world you are fighting for. The world you believe in.

This week on HB is a beautiful discussion on how we can work through disassociation, even with things that we care about. This episode is so, SO important. Please take some time to listen.
“The reason why we have fear is because there's something that we really love that is under threat.” This week, as we continue our Wellness 2.0 series, we talk to Sarah Jaquette Ray about how to cope when the world feels like a scary place.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the world in 2025 can be ... a lot. Sometimes it may seem that tuning it all out is our only option. This week on Hidden

If you ever find yourself losing faith in people, or wondering “do people even CARE anymore?!”, visit your local library. I say this without hyperbole, I am always struck by how much librarians care, every time I’m there.

Always helping. Always tending. Always reaching out. We owe them so much. 💙

It's so hard to find the balance between bearing witness to national and global vileness while also maintaining a state of mindful self-care so that we are able to show up in positive ways for our communities. We must do both.
We must have broken hearts and the ability to stay clear-headed.

Y’all are so nice here that I’m going to share this very vulnerable pic of starting a new project. I’m an academic (and mom of two wildlings) returning to one of my first loves. It’s awkward and scary, but also life-giving.

Let me tell you about one of my favorite books of the last 6 months. It beautifully connects ideas of #environment, #racialjustice, and joy. Please find & read. He’s not here, but you can find him on Insta at Rodney_birdbrother and see all those beautiful birds he writes about.

Just learned that the email addy for govt workers to snitch on their colleagues is DEIAtruth@opm.gov. Just a random fact to share with you today for no particular reason. Do with this information what you will. I'm sure they have a huge inbox that can support an influx of messages...

This is an excellent list. I particularly appreciate the local library and school board suggestions. Lots of moves for everyone that do not include just engaging in consumerism - real on the ground work and real personal education moves.

We've been here before.
! The Trump administration wants ICE to build four detention centers each with 10,000 bed capacity. Only the LA County Jail and Rikers are larger, and that's about the size of the Cook County and Harris County jails.

That would cost tens of billions and require thousands of new personnel.

I’m tired of seeing reviews of the most popular books on my social feeds. I know about these. Give me the weird, the fringe, the books hiding on the corner shelf. Give me the gem published 30yrs ago that needs a revival. Give me the books that bite.

One week in and I have my first highly suspect AI-generated submission from a student. I feel like I am in constant creative-thinking mode to provide a good education to them through valuable assignments, not busy work. So what is in our "best practices bag" now? #academia #adjunctfaculty
