TL; DR: Birds, cats, plants, politics. Seattleite sick of Seattle process. I flit between topics like a hummingbird, but hyper-focus like a corvid. Photography, gardening, podcasts. Mom of a tween, eng partner, keeper of two cats, a dog, fish. Obv ADHD.
This post, and some of the ensuing replies, basically broke my brain. TL;DR, actually people aren't necessarily NIMBYs if they don't want housing built. It could just be that they don't like how those new developments look and don't want them built... & that's not NIMBYism, I guess? Groundbreaking.
NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!

"Leavitt’s nephew lives with his father, Michael Leavitt, and stepmother... Michael Leavitt said that following the arrest a few weeks ago, he was primarily concerned for his son’s safety and well-being."

Karoline Leavitt and Ferreira "haven't spoken in years."

Definitely nothing to see here.
Bruna Ferreira, the mother of Leavitt’s nephew, was taken into custody in Massachusetts. trib.al/X91Qx9F

If we can't have light rail, can we at least have a crab bridge?
oh my god!
November 25, 2025 at 9:08 PM
More crab lanes, please!
when we say we want more streets to be pedestrianized, this is what we mean

Such fierce and assertive advocacy from our district 1 council member at a community light rail forum in West Seattle tonight. Seen but not heard; that's what I want from a representative. westseattleblog.com/2025/11/one-...

"...new leads, if there are any victims, we encourage any victims to come forward..."

Is it just me, or does this sound like they're setting the stage for "new victims" to come forward, presumably with crazy allegations against important Democrats? Or with something that somehow exculpates Trump?
“Will you release all the files within 30 days?”

“You said no addition investigation was warranted. What changed?”

BONDI: “Information.” 🙃

Um, guess I'll continue to not go to Ethan Stowell restaurants. Yikes.

So, one of the reasons Vanishing Seattle bothers me is the underlying NIMBY anti-change vibe. They amplify Tree Action Seattle content. Well, they also do this for Orca Nexus/Orca Appeal's Jennifer Godfrey, who's attempting to appeal the Seattle comprehensive plan (i.e., block upzoning).

Congratulations Seattle Times for a clean sweep in the 2025 election—for mayor, city attorney, and city council, all of your endorsed candidates lost!

Can WSB commenters blame Katie Wilson for this?
November 12, 2025 at 2:54 AM
New scandal: Katie has Glassybaby votives on her mantel! That's definitely as privileged as upgrading to $1000/night hotel rooms and first-class flights. REAL middle-class people only burn candles to save money on electricity.
Holy shit what!?

Katie Wilson just updated on her Instagram that she has passed Bruce for mayor of Seattle by 91 votes!! 🤯🤯

I gave up hope but like, she might actually do it??

Vanishing Seattle does it again. Somehow they didn't squeeze in any jabs at "developers" this time, but they still convey skepticism at the reason for this location closing and imply it's some kind of treasured Seattle institution. JitB started in San Diego & their e. coli outbreak killed 4 PNW kids

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Y'all, I lightly poked at Tree Action Seattle on Instagram... And they apparently blocked me.

Again, these guys get boosted by @seattleparksfoundation.org because they supposedly do work for the community and public spaces. Yet they block someone for this? LOL WTAF?
We'll see if they respond!

New thread, also on the Seattle Parks Foundation beat: Why was West Seattle Skylink a partner? And probably still would be if I hadn't followed up again after donating? While looking into TAS I found this. WS Skylink hasn't posted anywhere in well over a year, yet they still had an active SPF page
October 23, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Who can help me understand how Tree Action Seattle meets the requirements to be a @seattleparksfoundation.org partner? This designation allows TAS to receive tax-free donations and significant bolstering/legitimizing from the SPF association, yet requires no donor accountability from TAS. (1/?)

Of-fucking-course they did. This decision was clearly telegraphed two weeks ago.

My spouse, child, brother-in-law, and a friend were in Portland over the weekend for a gaming expo. My only concerns for their safety specific to PDX was from all the right-wing nuts descending on the "war zone."

Seriously. I hate to get all "corporate," but in project management and process improvement discipline we're taught "the five whys" to solve problems. It's literally just asking "why?" until you reach the root cause.
The bar is so low, and yet.
