2 years after Dr. Baron's request, I thought about it for a while.

3 additional suggestions:

a) @ashleytrubin.bsky.social 's "Rocking Qualitative Social Science"

b) Jennifer Cyr and @saragoodman.bsky.social 's edited volume "Doing Good Qualitative Research"

Hey Polisky since I’m a bit crunched on time I’d thought I’d crowdsource - does any have a favorite book for a research design and qualitative research course? Im wondering if there’s a good book that covers both, and hopefully limit my pouring over 50 books that are maybes

Quite an honor to be reviewed by @ajayverghese.bsky.social -- and in such great company! It was a privilege to work with Jen to bring Doing Good Qualitative Research into the world, and I’m thrilled that Ajay saw the book as the public good we hoped it would be.

I find these women incredibly inspiring as they balance patriotic service, motherhood, and professional successes.

And, not for nothing, I think the service vs performance framework is a good one for moderate Democrats. Serious people combatting serious problems.

I truly think this is an underappreciated point that much of the "rising far right" polisci literature has missed.

We have n->inf findings that bad stuff leads to far right voting. But why _doesn't_ bad stuff lead to far left (or center left) voting? One big answer: A failure of political supply.
🗳️ New study (w @jessicakuhlm.bsky.social) on AfD success in integration council elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany: AfD achieved significant results in councils elected exclusively by voters with migration backgrounds. It's not about economics—it's about political competition. (1/3)

Would Elie Wiesel (z”l) have consented to this? Probably not, but we don’t know. That’s the point. This is not the copyright expiring on Winnie the Pooh. This was a real man with a real life, and I think kids can develop tools of empathy and understanding by reading and discussing his words.
I learned last year that Colorado was using $3 million in federal pandemic funds to bring AI into schools — through a partnership with a company called MagicSchool, in which funds would go toward having teachers and students use its product. I visited a class to see that in practice. (2/x)

With all these Nazi tattoos in the news, I can’t help but think about the time in college someone told me to “get gassed” and my professor chided me for being “too sensitive.”

Seems like politely ignoring these folks has created a false impression of acceptability.

The federal govt has supported theater since the 1930s, as a Great Depression program. Federal assistance is not a sign of frailty but is baked in to how this art is shared.

At the same time, we need to see how this theater has become prohibitively expensive.

I'm reading this new(ish) textbook and it's such an incredible project and resource. Not only is it the most constructive guide to doing (good) qualitative research I know, all of its contributors are women or nonbinary/genderqueer. Love it!
