I am currently trying to get certified to work in libraries, but also I'm trying to learn 3k Kanji characters and I'm only at 300 after a year.
This is a reminder to myself to get off the internet and do my homework.
Second Christmas project complete: pop song.

The person responding in this image does not understand how artists work. Part of learning your craft is learning to communicate through your art but also how to articulate your ideas with words etc. AI can't do either. It can only deliver random generic images.
Anyone who supports this is an embarrassment. "Instead of typing it out they'll generate their idea"? Are you insane?

Call yourself whatever you want but you aren't creatives, that's for sure.

Love to have a little instrumental background music handy.

These have been specifically arranged so that the melody is playable on a Nuvo toot. The harmony line is for a regular flute, and the 'bass' part is playable on a Jsax.
But really, any C instrument can play any part.
I've been arranging Christmas carols for kids this month. I've made the parts publicly available on my website. I'll be adding to them bit by bit. Maybe I'll post some links to recordings to play along to.

So excited to discover this Dan Hicks album!
Sometimes I do a thread of Christmas songs, but this year, I'm just going to follow this one and call it a day.

Never forget Samsung's stream of sexist ads from 2013.
Just incredible.

Anyone who's ever worked with modern music notation software knows that this can't be a thing.
I'm having to use 30 year old software to transcribe everything because the modern stuff is constantly trying to fix what I've done to make it very wrong.

I know substack is bad, but Caitlin's newsletters have been so useful for knowing what diseases are going around and which food is being recalled. It's been running for a long time and it's well organized and packed with good info.

I can't imagine this book being anything but excellent.

I have been responsible and doing my schoolwork and stuff. But always in the back of my mind thinking about Shamisen: The Japanese Banjo.

I want to buy this for my kids but maybe I should wait until the semester is done and they're finished their homework etc. :/

This is applicable to music as well. This is why kids quit piano. And when they say "I don't like piano" they actually mean "I sound bad and I'll never be good" which is so sad.
Everyone thinks they sound bad. What is good? Just have fun and stop comparing yourself to others.
Of all the videos I watched, this has been my favourite so far. A proper understanding of what makes young people stop drawing when their taste suddenly shoots past their ability and how to work around it. Really great!

If I started drawing TODAY, this is what I would do.

Lots of people on reddit and elsewhere pooh-poohing plastic musical instruments, but I am here to tell you that my kids play nuvo's toot and flute and have become excellent musicians at a young age because the barrier to entry on these instruments is so low.

I'm working on some things and might start posting again.
Started this Christmas tree skirt. Probably won't have time to work on it again for 3 months. We'll see.

We have been using Rick Steves' travel show as a history/geoghraphy show for grade 7 homeschool and it's 1000000x better than the curriculum they're supposed to be covering.
We're definitely going to watch this one.
In the spring of 2008, I feared America was on the verge of war with Iran — and, believing that it’s good style to get to know people before you bomb them, I made “Rick Steves’ Iran,” a one-hour special that could (and would) only debut on PBS. Sadly, this special has become pertinent again today.

Join Rick as he explores the most surprising and fascinating land he's ever visited: Iran. In a one-hour, ground-breaking travel special on public television, you'll discover the splendid monuments of...

Woah! Doug and the Slugs did a cover of White Christmas. It's pretty weird, but I'll have to keep this one in my back pocket just in case.

Is a properly, humanly translated version.
Of one of the Princess Maker games.

That doesn't crash.
To work on in between my projects.
3 years in and I don't know enough Japanese to play it myself.

I have been trying to teach my 7 year old to write a story all year, very passively because I'm aware that it's unlikely to happen. Today we tried to accomplish it using Renpy, a program that lets you make narrative based video games. He was all into it.
But still can't write any story.

This one turned out really nice. Not so fancy on the other side, though.
I'm getting my 7 and 10 year old to try making a basic square. So far the 7 year old has done half a stitch himself. We'll see where it goes.

I can't find my stitionary, so I can't mark which one this was.
It's a really simple repeating pattern and it makes a very useful washcloth. I love it.

Okay I have to learn how to make shaders at some point and I've been instructed to read this entire website. Not sure when I'm going to block off the time to do this. Maybe Christmas?
