Traveling to @aereorg.bsky.social in NM tonight. I was not able to check in online despite having a return flight w/ the same airline.

Here I am, stressed as hell at the airport, hoping that I can make it to the conference. I might attend the European version until 2029 if today does not go well.
Saw that one coming

🤩🥂 thrilled that this paper with Eva Arceo and Elia de l Cruz will be out soon at JDE!

Also, this makes two published/accepted dissertation chapters and one in RR. Can’t complain!

This framing is all wrong

Our international students are not a “crucial funding source”

They are our STUDENTS

They are the reason we EXIST

We teach STUDENTS

Now Is Existential Question Time for Academia
The rise of the machines means that academics must ask themselves “Why Do I Exist?”

Thinking about devastating cuts to NSF: US gov-funded science has been the engine upon which most of the tech wealth was generated. But the oligarchs (currently hoarding much of that $) think it’s their own brilliance & not the accident of standing close to the scientific engine that made them rich.

If only there were a group of prestigious universities that could coordinate.

A "league" of sorts. Given the classic ivy draping buildings on college campuses maybe we could use that type of symbol to unite them.
We hang together or we hang separately. Could not be clearer what is happening and how universities must respond.
Trump Officials Freeze $1 Billion for Cornell and $790 Million for Northwestern

The funding pause amid civil rights "investigations" into both universities sharply escalates the Trump administration’s campaign against elite colleges.

TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)
