Horton v Skenes is kind of an exciting matchup. Hoping for a good game.

Overturning Humphreys is a classic heads we win tails you lose move. A future D admin would only be able to use this power if they have a senate majority. If a D pres fires board members and can’t replace them due to R senate majority the boards can’t function which is what Rs want anyway.

The Supreme Court should preserve the status quo until legal questions are resolved and explain the disposition of cases for the public. They are abdicating basic principles of equity and failing to fulfill their institutional role. They aren’t pretending to try. There isn’t even the veneer of law.

Not going to lie, I look forward to eating this cherry pie that just came out of the oven. When it cools off. I was super careful about it but still got some shrinkage around the edges.

If you’d told me in March that I’d be watching the teams with the two best records in baseball on a Friday in June I would have said sure that makes sense. If you told me that’d be Cubs v Tigers I would not have believed it. And it’s a pitcher’s duel to boot!

Steve Kerr is awesome.
Steve Kerr wore a Harvard basketball shirt after the Warriors’ win tonight: “Yes, this is me supporting Harvard. Way to go. Way to stand up to the bully.”

What people in every part of higher education need to understand is that Republicans now want to do to universities what they’ve tried to do to labor unions: erase them from the institutional landscape. The question is how much you want to collaborate in your own destruction.

News that Columbia is considering ceding to the Trump admin’s demands that it change how it regulate speech on campus and teaches students in order to continue to receive federal funds made me think of this passage from a speech that UChicago President William Rainey Harper gave in 1900

President Carter told us he was fighting for us. But this article based on public info requests shows that the Ohio presidents jointly decided to stand down before SB1 was even introduced.

We can— and must— defend constitutional norms as if they are institutions worth protecting while simultaneously acknowledging that those institutions are not self-executing and require political work to preserve.

I've been using a handmedown table for a desk since graduate school. I've long wanted to move on from that so I designed and built myself a new grownup desk in cherry. I finished it today after working on it in fits and starts as time allowed. I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I’ll bet if some of the big state schools losing millions from the NIH cuts threatened to backfill the losses by cutting the football budget there might be more pushback against the cuts from their congressional delegations.

"Pitchers and catchers report" is the phrase I associate with the promise of spring. It tickles with optimism that won't be dashed until April.
