Great tips for a season that promotes heavy alcohol intake! Alternating each drink with water will not only cut the calorie intake in half, but also make you feel significantly better the next day. Eat before you drink and stay hydrated to better enjoy holiday celebrations! #beh353

I plan to use what I have learned in this course to educate and support my future patients on their diets and lifestyles. Being able to give them sustainable changes without uprooting their lifestyle will make it possible for them to make permanent changes and better their health. #beh353

I was most excited for the stuffing on Thanksgiving. The turkey is usually dry, but that store-bought boxed stuffing hits the spot every year. Has to be the StoveTop brand, though. Happy Thanksgiving/Christmas Season! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Tom Carroll's story is a great read for future providers. If he had been met with empathy/support by his provider instead of being made to feel embarrassed, his health may not have declined. Providers must create a safe space for patients so that they can continue to monitor their health. #beh353

This is an important reminder in the holiday season! Enjoy your meals, don't shame yourself for eating. You can divulge sometimes AND nourish your body! #beh353
Holiday PSA: you don’t have to save your calories for 1 big meal, instead eat meals & snacks like you normally would. You don’t have to burn calories to earn more calories. You are simply always deserving of food.

I have learned the link between weight and shame, especially for children. As a provider, I want to support my patients by offering gentle, positive nutrition advice, but also conducting proper tests to ensure there are no underlying issues causing weight issues. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I actually love grocery shopping, but I find if I don't walk in with a list, the total can easily double what I had planned on spending. Work smarter, not harder :) #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

The barrier I find most relatable is the time barrier. As a parent who commutes and works an opposite shift than her spouse, I often find myself eating whatever scraps my kids didnt finish, rather than creating more dishes to wash just to better fuel myself. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

It may be time to add a Vitamin D supplement instead of relying on orange juice. Did you know there are new studies that have found strong evidence that Vitamin D supplementation prevents cardiovascular disease? It also supports our bones, energy levels and so much more! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Spinach is the best addition to increase nutrient intake! I personally use it in smoothies and aside from the color change, you wouldn't even know it was in it! #healthhacks @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Spinach gets a bad rap, but it’s one of the most versatile vegetables. Folate, vitamin K, iron, fiber — all in a low-calorie package. Fresh or frozen both work. Toss it in pasta, eggs, soups, or smoothies. It doesn’t need to be complicated. #RealWorldNutrition #NutritionFacts

A fad diet that I find really interesting is the carnivore diet. Its a diet only including meat, poultry, eggs, seafood, fish, some dairy, and water. No fruits and vegetables. It seems to be a version of a keto diet. Has anyone tried this diet and had notable takeaways? #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

It’s so fascinating to me that something as simple as heating an ingredient can complete change a foods flavor profile. Reading into food science is a great way to make better informed decisions about our diets! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Someone asked why melted cheese tastes so much better...I love these Qs, it's food science we take for granted!
Melting breaks down fats and proteins to release umami + aroma/flavour compounds. The gooey texture spreads to the tastebuds better + the Maillard reaction creates that toasty flavour.

My go to breakfast is an over easy egg on grilled sourdough toast with an iced black coffee. I could make my breakfast more nutrient dense by choosing a whole grain bread, adding avocado for a healthy fat or a side of fruit for added nutrients. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Working in the service industry has taught me that many people are under the impression that salad is always the healthiest option. Not to say salads shouldn't be eaten, but they can be as dense as a pasta dish, depending on the contents. Always read the ingredient list! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Love that this article emphasis that not all fats are bad fats. Unsaturated fats (nuts/fatty fish) promote a healthy brain +heart. Saturated fats (butter, pastries) are ok in moderation, but excess can lead to risking your heart health as well as your cholesterol levels. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
