"The police chased me out of the beach parking lot. Now Walmart. I’m running out of places to sleep, and to be."

"Isn’t that negation of our existence? We are here and we are you and we are yours."

A searing and essential piece of writing.

1/IMPORTANT thread about Bluesky funding and origins. Many folks know that it was seeded by Jack Dorsey around a libertarian vision of a magical network that wouldn’t need moderation because it would be decentralized and baked into a protocol (somehow).

One of the greatest crimes of Twitter was the damage it did to genuine curiosity. All engagement defaulted towards being antagonistic and it was almost impossible to have good faith exchanges, even in scenarios where both parties were actually hoping to engage in good faith.
Recently I posted something I wrote and someone commented with questions about some of the data in it.

My first impulse was to assume they were operating in bad faith and be defensive.

But then I answered their questions politely and it became clear they genuinely were confused.
The hostility was terrible, as was the defensiveness. People were always quick to take what one was saying in the least charitable manner because they were so used to people being unnecessarily hostile. Just felt like everyone had their backs up all the time. The nuclear block here helps a lot.
