it was like two or three years ago that @graceonfootball.com said about Thomas Frank, if you haven't shown a demonstrated set of ideas for how to use possession to create scoring chances, no matter how solid your record is otherwise, you're a big risk at any richer team

Very funny how you can look completely in control of a game of football but the illusion of control is all it is if you don’t create & score chances.

It never made sense

You re-sign Salah despite a huge drop-off post Jan

Knowing you need Dom to caddie for him

But you sign a world-class 10 anyway

So Dom has to move

So you can't play Salah

(Rinse and repeat with Kerkez. Rinse and repeat with Eki/Isak. God knows with Frimpong.)

Slot basically said in his presser this morning that the last two games he intentionally dialed back the attack to try to keep clean sheets. Worked at West Ham and almost worked against Sunderland. Probably going to see the same the next two games. Gonna be sufferball whether fans like it or not.

What's remarkable is that Slot was apparently hired because his style was most compatible with Jürgen's so he'd be able to use the squad he had at his disposal. This is not the high intensity football that Klopp's team used to play. It's slow, it's ponderous, it's predictable. #LFC
Would love to see #LFC stats for fast break shots and goals since the start of last season.

Last season: Liverpool replace a beloved manager, squad doesn't change, team stays good

This season: Liverpool replace key players while others age into their mid-thirties, manager doesn't change, team gets worse

Clearly the manager is the issue here

Last seasons midfield *with a fit Mac Allister* makes #LFC a completely proposition. All of a sudden Konate looks better AND Bradley looks better..2 clean sheets, only 1 big chance, 0.8xga.

Wirtz has been outstanding.

Even Klopp had two pretty terrible runs as Liverpool manager. Periods when we looked completely shot to shit, & clueless. There were reasons for both, & he found a way through both, too. He hit the reset button & adapted to the reality we faced.

We’re all hoping Slot does the same, I think 🤞🏻

You don't have to be Slot out to see there are serious issues at the moment, you don't have to be Slot in to show you are a supporter of the club. You don't need to be vilifying one or the other, everyone has opinions, discuss like adults, life's too short for everyone being dickheads. Love ya x

We've got enough data to get a read on everyone in the Premier League now, and go through who's over and underrated.

Enjoy the chaotic table while it lasts, it's not going to look this fun for very long.

It’s quite possible that this is Slot’s first crisis in his managerial career. It’s certainly the biggest. I have no idea whether he can find solutions & turn it around. I definitely hope he can. But, there’s a lot of things going against him, not least his own decisions.

The #1 Question I had going into the season was whether Wirtz was good enough off the ball to be a 3rd midfielder in the PL.
14 games in and its an emphatic no. He can only be the 3rd forward with 3 actual mids behind him #lfc

The build up from full back is appalling, and we've two ball to feet wide players. Possession is lost with alarming regularity. Diaz was a pressure release valve and could actually make it stick. We're significant wose off the ball, too.

Man. That was very, very bad, from start to finish. Utterly fucking shite is not actually going too far, either. Not an overreaction.

Brentford completely deserved it. We got exactly what we deserved, too.

It's a mess. Back to front. You can't legislate for Mo falling off a cliff, but at 33, it can happen. Remains to be seen if he can get it back. Enormous drop at right back. Two ball to feet wingers and a lack of real pace. It's apparent this is a transitional season and top 4/5 is our ceiling.

Liverpool are a poorly coached team. Transition doesn't exist when you're champions and spent 300m+ gross. Two wingers who are ball to feet and can't beat a man on the outside. Vulnerable defensively. A midfield without any synergy. A mess.

We’re being asked by half the media & politicians to swallow the idea that known racist football hooligans should be allowed to rampage through our cities for NO OTHER REASON than that they happen to be Israeli.

Fuck. That.

effective pressing and defending as a team takes a long time to teach and learn, it probably takes a full season to implement, and the higher the turnover, the longer it takes. that’s why continuity matters. if people expected half a new starting XI to hit the ground running, was never gonna happen.
Why new players learning to work together out of possession is as important for Slot's Liverpool as developing relationships in attack. There are now fewer ingrained instructions left over from Klopp's era, and none of the adaptation time granted to some previous new signings. @thisisanfield.com
