PhD food web ecology. I think fish population dynamics are neat and I live to monitor them...also supporting Indigenous community based monitoring and capacity building.

There’s renewable energy ads and there’s mother**cking wind farm ads. This, blissfully, is the latter.

“Most people think Ontario is all forest,” he says, “but Omushkego land is so much more. It’s my home, my history, my people.” - Jeronimo Kataquapit

The Hudson Bay Lowland is indeed so much more to so many people.

Best of 2024: On the shores of James and Hudson bays, the Omushkego Wahkohtowin conservation project is almost a reality. But to get there, organizers have to build trust and consensus while facing down a federal deadline

Yesterday I shared my opinion with another academic in this new space. I wasn't rude, my comment was just meant to spark discussion and share a new perspective. I was blocked for that. I thought this might be a better place to have those open conversations, but maybe not?
Not to be the stick in the mud, I'm all for the "organic" sharing of science in this place. But do we have to game everything for metrics? Publish your research here at your leisure, don't share it because you feel compelled to "keep up" with new things being used to evaluate your perceived worth.

It's beginning to look a lot like #Fishmas! 🐟🎄

That's right - #25DaysofFishmas will be on Bluesky this year! As in past years, I'll be highlighting a different #GreatLakes fish species each day in December, advent calendar-style. The 9th (!) year of #Fishmas kicks off December 1!

We're all in this together, right? Thanks for the follow! For the past 7 years I've been involved mostly in inland fisheries monitoring and science, both gov't and private sectors. Most recently I've been interested in integrating passive eDNA methods into regulatory monitoring practices.
