Canvas, the course management platform used by my university (and many others), has been down all day due to the AWS outage. It has prompted some good discussions about how much critical infrastructure is now outsourced to a few companies.

I dunno, my dad had polio and apart from never being able to run or walk really fast for his entire adolescence and adult life and also general muscle stiffness and aches for the last 60 years of his life, he recovered just fine.

After #POD24, I'm really curious about this: to those who are active users of AI and, particularly, those who are promoting AI in the classroom, how are you accounting for the environmental impact of AI? Shouldn't we address the harms before we widely embrace this in education?

I am all about project-based learning in my work as an educator, but my actual son is allergic to school projects and would rather do 100 worksheets than put more than the bare minimum into a project. The projects are cool and not graded. He’s in 1st grade.
