I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.
This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

I think the 4th of July parade in Ester, Alaska takes less than 30 min. More people show up to watch than live in the small town. This year it felt like a protest march, which seems appropriate. Don’t change, Ester.

![To the editor: This week, Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly Member Barbara Haney posted an unfounded, suggestive and demonstrably false comment about the Bread Line on Facebook.
The Bread Line, a local anti-hunger organization, has been "feeding people and affirming lives" in Fairbanks since 1984 through our free community programs.
On the third edit of her post, Mrs. Haney asked, "Why is Breadline [sic] involved in political events against the President of the United States?" She also shared a screenshot about Thursday's (5/1/2025)
May Day chili cookout which mentions fundraising for the Bread Line.
May Day is not a Bread Line event.
International Workers' Day (aka "May Day") commemorates the struggles and successes of workers across the labor movement. It has been celebrated in the United States since 1889.
Fairbanks' May Day cookout was independently organized by community volunteers — not the Bread Line or its staff. In the screenshot Mrs. Haney shared, the original post explicitly states, "May Day Protest for Workers' Rights, Community Chili Cookout, and Fundraiser for the Bread Line." The president is not mentioned.
What this cookout and the Bread Line do share is an ongoing effort to build healthy community through shared meals.
Americans have a right to free speech. Americans have a right to assembly. Americans have a right to association. Americans have a right to fund raise for causes they believe in.
In these divisive times, it is alarming that an elected official would imply impropriety by an established charity without evidence for that accusation. The Bread Line is a 50103 nonprofit in good standing.
Haney's untrue accusation threatens that status and - ultimately - harms the Alaskans we serve; people who deserve to be fed and cared for, the same as anyone else.
