This is such an incredibly important study countering claims that cutting research funds is no big deal.
What if NIH had been 40% smaller?

"We analyze 27 years of NIH extramural awards & their review scores to identify the bottom 40% of grants that would have been eliminated from 1980 to 2007... We then identify new molecular entity drugs, approved in the 21st century, that are linked to these grants"

Self-care is overrated—helping others has the biggest benefits for everyone involved

A new 2-week intervention finds that helping others improves well-being more than "self-kindness", with benefits for depressed mood, anxiety, and loneliness due to social connection psycnet.apa.org/record/2026-...

If you don't "believe" germ theory, you probably shouldn't be the head of HHS in 2025.

Depending on how things evolve, this could be the next chapter in the life of evidence-based decision making movement: how 'best evidence' and 'uncertainty' were transformed from being totally ignored into a weapon of anti science.
In isolation, the list of stated aims for improving research practice is quite good and aligned with many of the objectives that are common in the movement and things that I also advocate for personally.

The evidence is there!
What do tax cuts for the rich do?

They increase inequality.

They have no effect on economic growth or unemployment.

"Our results provide strong evidence against the influential political–economic idea that tax cuts for the rich ‘trickle down’ to boost the wider economy."

I particularly resonate with the "knowledge translation" component. We need a guide/template for researchers to summarize their research in plain language, indicate the role of public funds, and highlight the consequences of the (direct and indirect) funding cuts.
