show of hands, any cyclists here NOT have their heads on a fucking swivel looking out for cars running stops / running reds / right hooking?
Cyclists should be required to get a license I don't necessarily agree with the label of narcissist, but I continue to encounter cyclists on main roads who seem more interested in maintaining speed than safety. On most busy roads, it's expected that all vehicles, motorized or not, slow down and evaluate the safest path forward. As car drivers, it's ingrained in us to look at everything on the road, car or not, before proceeding. I'm beginning to think cyclists should be required to obtain an appropriate license before being allowed on major roads. If all parties are required to be licensed, surely it would mean fewer risks taken and therefore fewer accidents. I love living in Boulder and can appreciate the steps taken to support cycling over cars if we're to make any progress, but this can't be accomplished only by wishful thinking and future bike lane projects. It takes time for change, it takes education for all parties involved, and it takes implementation of new rules and enforcement to ensure everyone's safety. Elizabeth Yodice, Boulder

USAC is apparently also cracking down on "women/open" fields that were being used as a workaround to allow trans women to still compete.

this sure doesn't feel like "we had comply with federal regulations" territory anymore.
Open class: an Open class allows all riders to enter, unless restricted by factors like age or gender (e.g. Masters 45+ Open, Men Open). Women are eligible to register for an Open class if they choose. Open classes may be combined with other classes, such as "Men/Open" or "Non-binary/Open", but they cannot be combined with the women's category (e.g., "Womens/Open").

for those following along, i finished 11/25 in cat 4, started strong with the lead group but blew up pretty quickly at that pace and slid back to the 2nd group and then lost that and rode solo. 290 NP first lap then like 240-230 NP the rest of the laps. need to race into better shape imo.
a brutally damaged person (me) gasps for air as he rides a bike around the cyclocross course. the backdrop is gorgeous, the boulder flatiron mountains, reaching high into the blue sky with scattered white clouds.

Our brains are being deep fried by instant engagement, social media, and instant rescue from “boredom”, and as a result we can’t abide any instant of boredom, which feeds back into the problem. We no longer have the ability to just sit and be bored for even a couple minutes.

In the world of cycling, in July of 2023 the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), cycling’s world governing body, banned transgender women from cycling in women’s races with many national cycling organizations following suit. Independent cycling events, such as The Belgian Waffle Ride series, have also followed the UCI’s lead. USA Cycling and, recently, Lifetime Fitness (the owners of Unbound Gravel) have moved towards an arbitrarily enforced, testosterone based transgender women’s regulation that is only loosely based in science. All of this under the guise of “protecting women’s cycling” while, with some rare exceptions, steadfastly refusing to invest in equal pay, media coverage or the creation of grassroots programs to get more women into the sport.

felt tk2 track bike with custom paint job (shimmery purple). there are zipp carbon wheels on front and back. sprinter bars. there are a couple stickers on it including "ACAB" on the front fork, "queer love" where the top tube meets the seat tube, and a John Wilkinson memorial sticker on the seat tube.

took home 3rd at the velodrome last night! not a ton of signups so we all (A/B/C groups) raced together 😅

one of the best parts of track cycling is being able to just like, reset and race again. 3 races in one night!

honestly some of the best parts of this summer have been riding home from tuesday night crits at sunset as temps cool down.

Outside of 3 Doors Down’s inauguration performance and Staind’s Aaron Lewis declaring “God bless Donald Trump and J.D. Vance” in concert, most of these bands’ politics have been opaque. Canadian act Nickelback are confusingly co-headlining a “Rock the Country” tour with Trump superfan Kid Rock. Stapp endorsed God during a concert prior to the 2024 election.

the back of the bar, bunch of liquor bottles on shelves and then 3 shelves full of vinyl records two huge speakers on a wall in the bar, with some black and white art on the wall the menu: lists a bunch of different liquors. under amaro, there is a malort for $0

fantastic ride this AM through some rare fog in town up through the mountains to peak to peak highway!!
clouds and fog floating among the evergreens. i’m riding on a bike path alongside the highway. fog and clouds resting on trees in the mountainous hills. a dirt road with a power line crossing over it. there are, you guessed it, fog and clouds the fog has cleared, blue skies above a mountain prairie with spotted trees stretching into the distance.
