This is kinda the point, uneven enforcement is a characteristic of authoritarian government because it makes institutions more likely to be sycophantic in exchange for the law to come down on them on the lenient side.
Here’s an underrated possibility with tariff shit: they come into effect but compliance is relatively low: lots of people just don’t pay them. Think about what they’ve done to federal govt state capacity. Think about how much working enforcing this would be.

Feels like twitter has finally crossed the event horizon of vulgar dumbassery that long separated it from facebook groups and youtube comments sections. There’s no longer even the challenge or stimulation of arguing with racists and fascists, just an endless gauntlet of stupidity.

one of the insidious things about trump is how he just enables incompetence across the board. everything just works worse when he's president because people figure, if a completely incompetent moron is president, why should I give a shit? the shift was clearly observable in 2017 and it is again now
