Solution Architecture @ Elucidata. Making biological data AI-ready. Protein design, synthetic cell biology, industrial biotechnology.
From an architecture perspective the changes to Treasury IT systems that Elon is insisting are "obvious and necessary" are in fact really dumb.

I've been trying to articulate my reaction to the last two weeks, and this does it perfectly.

He wants to have an argument about being a dictator because he's weak. His only strength comes from people believing he is strong.

Don't accept his premise.

Look closely at the first two weeks of Donald Trump’s second term and you’ll see something very different than what he wants you to see.

I cannot agree with this more. This book should win every major prize for nonfiction in 2025. There is nothing close for understanding what's happening right now.
Alas, reading Character Limit now is an important tool for understanding the current moment. Without that book I would have assumed much of what I am hearing today was exaggerated. But it is scary similar to Musk path at Twitter. www.amazon.com/Character-Li... @kateconger.com @rmac.bsky.social

I know that 🦋 isn't the place for marketing content, but there is a great BioML community here and I wanted to share a result that we at elucidata.io are really excited about: By uniformly reprocessing the training data we were able to achieve higher accuracy than scGPT with 7X fewer cells!

I have no idea if this is true, but it’s a really provocative and exciting idea.
"Maths has been an incredible language for describing physics, AI is maybe the perfect description language to biology." Hassabis talks about how guided tree search may not be used only for Go or protein folding, but may be a more general method in AI for science.

An excellent thread!
I’ve seen some posts recently, about the value of basic research, in light of funding cuts and demands that research have immediate economic justification.

Let me collect some info here, in a thread, about why it’s a bad idea to attach those sorts of demands to funding. 🧵 🧪 ⚛️

Incredible.
Here goes the skeetorial for the latest preprint from our lab describing RFpeptides, a pipeline for design of target-binding macrocycles using diffusion models. Big shoutout to Stephen Rettie, David Juergens, Victor Adebomi for leading the project (1/n)

I think this is wrong, at least in the short term. There is too big a gap between people’s intuitive expectations and what the models actually do. People expect a 3D printer and what they’re actually getting is at best a carving knife.
As someone who has gone back and forth between science and “business,” I have observed that there is an idea, especially in the business community, that in order to have a commercial impact AI has to be part of consumer products.

An interesting thread on meta-illusions (AI having illusions about humans having illusions).
thinking of calling this "The Illusion Illusion"

Makary seems like a reasonable, perhaps even good, pick to head the FDA.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve received the memo on how incredibly uncool it is to use a hyphen in your handle and I have corrected the issue.

That being said, hi! 👋
