Don't be jealous, but I never watched Grey's Anatomy or any version of The L Word. Which means I've now got 422 hours of TV to look forward to. That's 17.5 days or just over a month of hermitizing, if I sleep.

I feel so nourished by this essay. Gorgeous, @maureenlangloss.bsky.social.
Ten years ago I wrote a rambling piece about things I found moving that spring. It features a tiny moment with Pope Francis. Feels relevant again today. Thank you for reading. The photo is my mom, my kid, my cousin Joe, & me awaiting the arrival of the Pope www.maureenlangloss.com/meditations-...

NEW: It's time to #FundLibraries.

As we fight for the long-term future of federal funding for libraries in Congress & in the courts, it's critical that our elected officials CONTINUE to provide annual funding.

Take action, tell your House Rep to fund libraries in FY26: bit.ly/FundLibraries26House

legit this system is AMAZING, different author friends of mine who've struggled for years to maintain a daily writing routine now text each other all excited to report once they've finished "The Haylie" for the day
Feels like a good time to soft launch MY method for writing, which is: 125 words a day, every day, no excuses, but also no pressure to produce more than that. I have a demanding day job and not a lot of time but I've added >20,000 words to my novel in 2025 using this method.

I wish Mom had lived to see this heartening act of love by @corybooker.com. I haven't cried much since she died—she's out of pain, after all. But the thought of her missing this brings tears. Imagining how she would be inspired by Sen. Booker's dedication makes me ache with missing her. #resist

Friends, Any recommendations for U.S. newspapers whose subscription fees don't support fascism? Enjoying sources like The Guardian, but want a domestic perspective, too. Would like to support actual journalism.

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment.

One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

On May 10, 1933, Nazis burned the library of The Institute for Sexual Science.

The Institute was founded by Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld. Its community clinic pioneered healthcare for queer, trans, & intersex people.

The Institute was targeted & attacked as part of a Nazi government censorship program.

It feels worth emphasizing that these websites being taken down aren’t some federal worker’s hobby, or an agency’s side project.

They exist as matters of policy, some directly mandated in law, some through government contracts.

Taking them down is fundamentally illegitimate and autocratic.
