Of course it's jobs for the mates. Both sides do it, but it doesn't make it right.
We spend tens of thousands training diplomats but send ex-politicians who are at a loose end.
If they have a buring desire to join the diplomatic corps, send them to a challenging post like Nepal.
PM brushes away 'jobs for mates' question while announcing next UK high commissioner
PM says pick is 'an entirely appropriate appointment.'

OFFS can we not do this. Analysis paralysis. If IA existed in the early 20th century we'd still have vehicular ferries across the Harbour and a tram shed on Bennelong Point.

Late to the party, but have started watching The Crown. A good show but everyone (with the possible exception of the Queen and Magaret) is ghastly. Even the old Nazi King Edward does fare to badly by comparison.

Has @albomp.bsky.social condemned India for buying Russian oil?
Just wondering, because he was pretty quick off the mark when it came to condemning China's silence over the invasion.
Or is he too much of a Modi fanboy?

The US president claimed Modi had assured him of deal, but Indian officials insist no such conversation took place

Bloody noisy miners. I know they are natives and needed for pollination, but this year they're driven off everything including magpies and currawongs.

[13] Your egotistical & hackneyed rant cannot compare with some 40,000 kids raped by religious or the tens of thousands of women locked up & treated as slaves for being unmarried mothers or the fact that some of their kids were stolen & sold. There is much more. So your hot take is offensive. Stop!

[12] Since saying [11] three Americans came in with juvenile rants about Catholicism. The ignorance is mind blowing. Being culturally Jewish or Catholic is a thing. Respect that. And seriously adolescent arguments like ‘religions cause wars’ is so offensive to people who have lived thru a theocracy

🧵 I like that we are no longer in a theocracy anymore. If you want to go to church, you can; if you don’t want to, you don’t have to - something unacceptable as late as the 1980s. I think it’s helped the Catholic Church return to its mission & certainly that impacts on the ground [1]

If I, who was assaulted by a priest, at my grandfather’s funeral can see that there’s more to faith than bad actors then you should too.

So spare us your adolescent hot takes & listen to people who survived a cruel & evil theocracy. I block these idiots.

…homosexuality & where gay men were jailed for being gay up to 1994 can see the good [as well as the bad] you should learn from that. If the survivors of the institutions that enslaved women & stole their babies find comfort in their Catholic faith you should be able to see your hot takes,,,
