speaking as though anyone is obligated to engage in discourse with you, esp
someone who’s blocked you, is hilariously entitled and arrogant. block evasion is literally harassment, but the problem with “community” is the “impact” of (again) a <50 follower account that barely posts? lol. lmao

super normal to make an account specifically to pester a complete stranger with <50 followers about personal blocklists they haven’t asked a single other user to utilize. anyways. no lol

considering i’ve taken the trash out the past three or four times at least, i’m deciding that i actually feel quite comfortable leaving the latest bag by the front door where my roommate left it at 3 am last night, presumably so she can take it out at some point today

Seeing a lot of nervous newly-arrived writers here, so some words of advice: I came over here about a year ago, deactivated an account of 11,000 followers, and still got WAY more traction because the algorithm was so broken over there. Bottom line: Do. Not. Support. Facists. Even for your career!

I have data that BlueSky and Instagram raised 7X+ more funds for our recent Kickstarter vs Twitter.

The algorithm is against artists, and the platform doesn’t have the user trust to drive sales.

Rebuilding is hard, but worth it. Esp when the safety risk is so high.

I deactivated this week.
if you're a writer with one foot out the twitter door, but you're holding on for promotional reasons, please be assured that that app is completely useless as a marketing tool. It has been for a long time, but now it does nothing for you. It sells zero books.

Start wearing a mask in public places again.

I’m serious.

If you stopped, go back to it.

Here’s why:

Censorship crackdowns for NSFW artists are not going away. You can host your own site for free with neocities.org and you can even find free themes by other users on there. The TOS states NSFW is accepted, and I love using it for personal use. Check it out! ⭐️

fuck that shit. let's build a political community based on care for one another.

#diysky FOLLOW UP PROTIP FROM ME, A BLUESKY ELDER

People won’t rt your stuff as much if the images don’t have alt text. Go ahead and go into your settings, accessibility, and “require alt text on posts” and you’ll get a reminder. It takes about 15 seconds to do a good alt text descriptor, so do it!
#diysky pro tip from me, a Bluesky elder: since there’s no algo here to boost your shit, repost your posts. Repost them over and over again. Keep reposting them. Then repost them some more. If you have qualms about reposting yourself, you best get over em real quick.

“I started thinking more about genre fuckery when I read Rakesfall, which resists any genre label you might try to put on it.” yes hahaha y e s the genre is out
"I am here today to advocate for a certain amount of chaos."

@mollytempleton.bsky.social argues for more genre clashing. When the lines between fantasy, science fiction, mystery, romance, horror, and more begin to blur, something breathtaking bursts out of it:

Gleefully mixing genres can create something magical and powerful, and sometimes it’s a hot mess. Either way, I want MORE.

the thing that always cracks me up about fans going "character [x] would never do [y]!" is that a competent writer can find a way to make any character do anything (with those actions feeling earned/organic)

"but that would go against their values!" i know, isn't it 👹EXCITING👹
