What prices do you expect? I tried comparing prices for a Mon-Tue trip, and I'm seeing ~$130 for the train, and $280 for a flight.

Nunavut has 40-80 deaths/bil km, but only 30-40m km/yr (40k pop -> 1k km/person/yr). That's 1-2 deaths/year.

BC has 6-8 deaths/bil km, but ~9k km/person/yr. That makes the per-capita deaths similar:
- BC: 9k km * 6-8 = 54-72
- NU: 1k km * 40-80 = 40-80

There probably was no population crash on Rapa Nui caused by ecological changes (i.e. the deforestation). www.science.org/content/arti...
Famed Polynesian island did not succumb to ‘ecological suicide,’ new evidence reveals
Genomic, archaeological data show population on Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, never “collapsed” as some had argued

A city grocery load is what you can carry walking. The rack is for carrying a backpack/dufflebag worth of stuff without it being on your back or hanging from the handlebars. On longer rides it's nice to have food and maybe a chair/blanket.

The podcast covers neo-nazis, and I think the phrase is saying "we don't speak German here because we beat back the Nazis"

OED's first confirmed use of "transsexual" was in 1907, which is *118 years ago*.

Also, long queues are an "efficient" use of payroll! A queue ensures all of the employees have clients to service. A short queue may empty, leading to employee downtime, which would count as "overhead".

The communist soldier's accent was really jarring. Pronouncing Tacoma as Ta-Co-Ma sounds like a bad Japanese accent to me.

Coal in the U.S. is <20% of electric generation. It's been on a steep decline since 2008, when it was ~50% of electricity.

(~70% of coal's decline has been more Nat. Gas; ~30% has been wind and solar.)

I hate how the worksheets still have to be done by hand. I'd love for FFFF to check my worksheets.

(I'd also appreciate a more visible difference between input and calculation fields than coloring the text #00764E vs #0077b3)

That's about double the actual inflation. $250 in 2017 is $325 in 2025. You need to go back to 2006 for it to be $400.

JFYI, Finland and Sweden have finalized joining NATO. Sweden joined on March 7, 2024.

(Sweden and Finland both applied in May 2022, but Turkey delayed Sweden's application by a year.)

Also, here's a local reporter on his first Seattle election 10 years later in 2007
Harrell was elected to the city council largely because his opponent, Venus Velazquez, was accused of a DUI not long before the election. At the time, most election analysts said the DUI was the reason she lost what had been a close race (she was later acquitted).

Harrell was elected in fall 2021. There was a general backlash in Seattle elections to progressive policies post Floyd protests. His opponent supported eliminating single-unit zoning, and Harrell supported punitive anti-homelessness policies.

A couple clarifications: 1) The net worth is in thousands, so it's $3,470 and $93,400; 2) Net worth includes debt, such as credit cards, education loans, and vehicle loans. Their assets are higher at $12,700 and $165,900.
