I wrote about the fake account blowup on X this weekend. A genuine post-truth nightmare and proof that these companies have polluted their platforms so thoroughly and traded reality for profit that they've undermined the very idea of what the internet is supposed to be.

This is *expressly* not the law
BLITZER: I want to be precise. Should members of the US military obey clearly illegal orders?

McCLAIN: You're asking an enlisted person for their opinion on what they think is legal. That's a pretty slippery slope. Follow your commander in chief. That's the oath that you took

(Not a no!)

Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

Montreal! My friends opened a restaurant! It’s a Mediterranean snack bar inspired by the Armenian diaspora right in the Mile End. Give them a follow on the Instagrams and come by!

They are soft launching for the next two weeks & testing out menu items! Be the first to try stuff out!

Having worked on MMOs for much of my career — all of which by nature have heavily online and engaged fanbases — one of the biggest problems your design and community teams have to deal with is charismatic idiots.
One of the producers on Guilty Gear Strive said it was basically impossible to source player feedback on balance changes online because nobody had original opinions and would just parrot what the most popular content creators said and so they had to rely on data and I think about that every day.

this is hilarious and miserable. just so tech bros can have their dystopia moment, students have to lose all accessibility provided by remote technology and we the professors lose the flexibility and convenience. but progress, amirite?!

i love when characters are like "it's like a [specific unique thing to this fantasy world] getting [specific circumstance unique to this world]" as a terrible way to exposit something about the world while looking at the camera, eyebrow raised, like "cool worldbuilding, right?"

(no i dont)

When onboarding people into a specialized trade, it is hammered into you from the jump that you should minimize jargon in order to make the learning process smoother. This also applies to world building, and you should always act accordingly. There will be PLENTY of time to get them buried in vocab.

My even more unpopular opinion is unless you have personally experienced the thing, you should probably refrain from having an opinion on it.

We need to return to shaming people for parroting YouTube/TikTok with stuff like "When I want your opinion, I'll just find the YouTuber who gave it to you."

Whenever I say this, people get Really Mad, but it's true. Same of any other art, too. You have to read the book, watch the film, see the painting, listen to the song, whatever.

I'm sorry, but watching a video about it on YouTube is not enough. You have not experience the art.
"you have not played the game unless you've played the game" is one of my more annoying but unshakable opinions
the whole "don't play the game, just watch a video on youtube that will explain its story to you" is so disheartening because the issue of accessibility is genuinely really important but it's always just people who want to be spoon-fed nicely quantifiable information

This is why I think destiny bringing in YouTubers and streamers hurt it. Remember when I wrote "this will hurt destiny" and a very popular destiny streamer was like "no it won't" and I got a bunch of shit but I ended up being right and he was wrong?

Wanna know why?

Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.
