Bernie Sanders: "For Mr. Musk and his fellow oligarchs, the needs, the concerns, the pain, the ideas, and dreams of ordinary people are simply an impediment to what they the oligarchs are entitled to. And that is really what they believe -- they are entitled to all the wealth and power they have."

Literally crying hearing how French women applaud Gisele Pelicot every day as she walks out of court. #r4today

Everywhere around the world women watch & applaud her bravery too. She stood up for all of us.

Because the shame has to switch sides.

Rad. Never in a million years thought I'd be holding a book I wrote.

Thanks to Island Press and my editor Heather Boyer.

Thanks to Alex Steffen, Dave Roberts, and Carlos Moreno for the incredibly kind words.

Let's get to work building better, more affordable, and climate adaptive cities!

Here in Flushing with grieving families on today’s World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Traffic Violence.
Traffic violence is preventable. We have the skills, resources, and the tools to protect people. We just need the political will.

My students always ask me what they can do as individuals for climate, and here’s what I tell them:

1. Vote for candidates that will do something about climate change
2. Ride a bike
3. Stop eating meat (or at least beef and dairy)
4. Fly less

If only we were prepared to tackle catastrophic climate change the way we are in the off chance everyone on the planet drives their car to the mall on the same day.

Imagine if, tomorrow, everyone at the Williamsburg Trader Joe's was forced to shop with a full-sized cart.

No matter how urgent their trip, or how few groceries they needed, they *had* to take up a cart's worth of floor space.

This is our city on cars.

US building codes induce some of the most asocial, dystopian, contorted, and unaffordable homes with virtually no climate adaptation and an incredible poor quality of life.

there's a reason the majority of urban homes the world over are small point access blocks, either isolated or connected.
How does the IBC's longest allowed double-loaded corridor plan compare to the maximum size of a single-stair Seattle mid-rise?

One of the apartment plans is significantly larger than a football field & fully complies w/ building code

The other plan is quick to exit but illegal in most of the U.S.
