As a Bulls fan I feel contractually obligated to say Jordan’s the goat but like come on man like its not even a competition anymore. I been alive for a shorter period that LeBron has been in the league and he’s still that guy.

I think I’ve made up my mind about moving to LA permanently after I graduate this fall. Now I just have to 1. Actually get an aero job here and 2. Figure out the places here I like enough. As long as I can walk to groceries and it’s near the coast I will be happy.

Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so hyper fixated on urban planning and zoning reform because I love the friends and stuff I’ve been doing in LA so far this summer but I cannot escape the constant urge to crash out over how shitty the land use is

I think I’m fundamentally broken in a weird way because tell my why the semester ends and I immediately want to move on and get to LA and start working. Like bro just relax and play a bunch of golf.

Seeing the SAAS-ification of hardware/manufacturing startups has to be the biggest hurdle for people to take any of these new players seriously. You can’t post your way to “rebuilding American manufacturing” with a pic of an open source styrofoam cutter that some guy in Europe made a decade ago.

An annual U.S. Thanksgiving reminder that you’re not “stuck in traffic,” you ARE traffic.

Happy #Thanksgiving.

This is one reason why I think more mixed-use residential density is a precondition for salvaging American democracy. A diaspora of isolated, fortified castles is a better setup for feudalism than for a republic.
There was an article years ago about evangelical culture in Colorado Springs where they said this explicitly: they really liked McMansion exurbs because they could keep their (homeschooled) families away from demonic influence

Chicago Concrete Post Company, 1924:
“Smashing automobiles? Yes, — but saving lives.”

Silent policemen were no flexposts. When “protecting pedestrians” was the end, unyielding mass was the means. That’s automatic enforcement our best tech today can’t match.

I think the issue is that cities are not just job networks; they are also networks of consumption, dating, socialization etc. And more and more about those things if we have remote work. So we shouldn’t optimize around job access alone.
