full agree. Ive got a dedicated winxp machine and when I installed to check it ran okay I ended up playing it for ages. I know it didnt get the huge competition scene that q3a got but I still maintain that its a far better experience as a game. (bots, gamemodes, mutators etc)

A powerful piece. You can feel the anger and disdain in the inefficient placement. I can almost *hear* the stamping of feet and huffing.

I think it was RD2 where theres 2 switches, and an comedy arrow appears pointing to one of them. If you activate it, its instant death from a laser (yes you have to use the OTHER one). its ridiculous anti-player design that would upset so many today but I had to just laugh at the audacity of it. 😂

To counter being 'grumpy old man yells at clouds', one modern game I think does this area well is the Doom Remakes. They aren't afraid to have large areas of "rest" on characters so that its not just micro greebles over the entire surface. Detailed without being overworked.

valve was especially disappointing because they made a great 'making of' about the entire visual design of the characters, and how much effort they put making each one have a distinct shape and stand out at a distance. Only to then go 'lol hats! cha-ching!' and completely go against it.

I think the stage I like the most is the beach one as its a higher contrast silhouette against a very simple floor.

aww the Massive 4 player Darius is gone.

I can hear the sound of this being typed/rapidly mashed in my head. 😂 (gratz tho!)

wierdly, the first thing I thought of was Brute Force on xbox (Digital Anvil, ex origin) until I remembered Shadowcaster, which I played with a really awful logitech 3d mouse I heavily regretted buying.

unless theres some haptic stuff going on those featureless discs look a bit like all the downsides of touchscreen gaming with none of the convenience 🤷‍♂️
July 22, 2025 at 12:38 PM
oh wow this looks neat. I hope the idea is to replace the cars and people with voxels if the camera isnt going to be pure topdown
