I will say I've always read and written what I like cause otherwise I get bored and lose interest. So if I'm "following" a trend it's cause it's something I already enjoy. #kidlitchat
I'm so burned out and over tired I don't have time for trends right now but did want to pop into #kidlitchat to say hi to folks cause it's been a hot minute
TOPIC: We just had a time change and, as always, times are changing, too. Do you keep an eye on trends? How do they inform how you work? And what trends are you noticing in the kidbook biz these days? #kidlitchat

Mine was glaringly obvious I just couldn't do it. If only I had been just chugging along! #kidlitchat
I think it can be hard to recognize our own ruts. Like, it often feels like I'm just sailing along... and I am, on some level, cuz I'm doing the same thing I had just done and not bringing enough new to it. But it feels like progress so I miiiight not notice. #kidlitchat (Or maybe this is just me.)

Routine .. not routing..

I need to go to bed 🤦‍♀️ #kidlitchat
See I was just trying to share a glowing example of breaking my routing... This is what happens when I go on hiatus for too long!

I failed... Wrong hashtag #kidlitchat
Oh gosh this is so me right now. It's when the writing grinds to a complete halt and I can't put my butt in the seat and write. Sometimes I ride it out, sometimes I look for inspiration in other medium. Sometimes it's a sign I need a break.

#kidlit
TOPIC: You have finally found your comfort zone. You begin to suspect that you know what you're doing! And then a small thought worms its way into your happy place: have you fallen into a rut, creatively? How can you tell--and what can you do about it? #kidlitchat

The good news is after a LONG rut i finally broke it the other day and put about 800 words down and that felt like a HUGE win

Hey #kidlitchat

I love getting into the edits ripping my story apart and making it shine even brighter on the other side but ooo boy do I hate the blank page.

The cursor... It blinks ... It mocks me...

I also like to use dot charts to track my pacing. One per chapter and just kind of eyeball pacing vs where I am in the book helps me see if things are rising and falling or are just stagnant

Ooo hey it's been a hot minute #kidlitchat! *Waves*

Pacing... Great topic. A ticking clock or a deadline is a great way to keep things moving fast.

For a slightly slower pace questions or a quest/adventure that slowly gets answered or solved and brings up new questions.
TOPIC: Let’s talk, if you don’t mind, about… well… wait for it… pacing! What are your tips for keeping your story moving briskly? In picture books, how does art impact the pace? What do you do when you find your story meandering? #kidlitchat
