Fangs! Leg hairs! Venom profiles! Writer ‪@michelleduff.bsky.social‬ and photographer @robsuisted.bsky.social take a closer look at the noble false widow, the exotic spider that’s quietly set up home in New Zealand.
Rise of the noble false widow
Lots of spiders are very good at one or two things. Stalking, maybe. Setting traps. Biting. But Steatoda nobilis, the invasive spider now spreading in New Zealand, has an arsenal of tactics—including ...

Latest story I shot for @NZGeographic , bit of a pig hunting adventure with writer @naomiarnold last month. Wild pigs are eating our rare native frogs; not ideal.

My 8yo just found out he paid 7c tax to IRD last month from his savings.
“Yay, now I can swear Dad!”
“How come son?”
“Well mum said I could only swear once I started paying tax!”
Actual. LOL, can’t fault the logic

Sometimes people try to tell the truth accidentally. Why was Andrew Bayly given days to tell his family? Have a listen at this odd unprepared answer: "I've never had an affai.......um, anything like this happen before".

Looked like MP Andrew Bayly nearly made a Freudian slip with the word “affair” getting part way out of his mouth during the TV standup?

5 marlin have now been caught off Waikanae/Kapiti in the last week. And today a Mahi-mahi fish was caught near Kapiti island. Changes to the Wellington area marine environment in my lifetime are extreme (and concerning)

Archive footage of former PM Jenny Shipley dealing with an out of control Winny. At the end I've stitched in Luxon responding to comments about how he's dealing with an out of control Winny and Jones.

I've made a submission on the Treaty Principles Bill. In the spirit of 'playing what's in your hand', I have quoted from my father's Penguin History of Aotearoa New Zealand – including this banger:

Subscribing to NZ Geo wasn't on my radar until their recent appeal to find new subscribers or become nonviable, but I received my first issue and if this is the standard then I am *in*. Brilliant stuff. Mosses! Birds! Unpleasant but important greenwashing facts! @nzgeo.bsky.social you rock 😍

Anyone that thinks cycleways are Wellington’s problem should stop inhaling the propaganda. This is fu*ked and feels like a vendetta.

REALLY BOSS?!! Incredible how hard-wired my #corgi pup is to work stock on the slightest suggestion, & how much self control the pup has despite it. Most people don’t realise they’re a cattle breed, she has the fully installed 🐄 module in that 🧠 .

Bloody hell. Visited an old friend & hunting mate’s wife yesterday bc he’s become full ward of the state w early dementia, he won’t be coming out. It’s a horrid sharp decline, end likely near & a worn out spouse tht must move on. They’ve been together from teenagers. Getting older isn’t for pussies

The cutting of rural school bus services is going to cause significant rural disruption & change. The segment on TV1 on the cuts in Hawkes Bay is terrible. The ripples are huge for rural families, employment and community. Our local one is being cut next year too
