I have seen at least 50 video clips of the Pop Tarts Bowl and have no idea who won the football game, let alone played in it.

I can't imagine the writers on VEEP ever dreamed up a plot line where the American people were having to turn to piracy to watch 60 Minutes.

Lost in all of this is that we were supposed to have Hamilton here to celebrate the country's 250th. That's cancelled and the replacement is what exactly?

The stock market hits all-time highs while this metric hits all-time lows. Eventually something's gotta give (you'd think).
UMich consumer sentiment (current conditions) at 50.4 is a new all-time low -- going back to data from the 1970s.

Americans don't "love to drive" as the trope goes. In fact I would argue there is no more miserable demographic in America than people behind the wheel.

Is the ratio of potlucks to catered holiday parties a recession indicator? Because if so I have some bad news about the state of the economy.

It's actually quite simple. Non-econ people don't know the difference between price levels and YoY rate of inflation. Promising "low inflation" doesn't work if you don't educate people on what that actually is.
Inflation peaked in 2021-22 but affordability as a political issue is arguably still ratcheting higher — the length of these lags always surprises me.

Gasoline at 3 dollars per gallon is absurdly cheap on a purchasing power basis. The fact that they can't make that case and have to lie about the actual price is telling.
HASSETT: Gas prices dropped below $2 a gallon in a lot of places

CORDES: Gas prices on average are still at $3 a galloon

HASSETT: For a few states they got below $2

The maximum cost for renting street space for a DC streatery should be no more than the maximum revenue that DC should expect from on-street parking at that space.

For some streateries that could be as low as $50/year. That's how much we subsidize parking in DC!
Charles Allen will be introducing emergency legislation to revise the DDOT/DOB streatery regulations before they are implemented to lower the cost and add more flexibility

My lukewarm take on the terrible anonymously written WaPo Seattle Mayor article is that now that I'm 15ish years into no car ownership the financial benefits are really compounding. Those folks will never say that it's a financially savvy way to build wealth though.
