Well deserved award for Adam, Hannah and the RF labour market team for helping to provide clarity on the state of the UK labour market in the absense of decent official data. Public service think-tanking at its best!
I'm proud to have received the innovation prize at last night's @smartthinking.bsky.social awards – for my and my colleagues' work producing an alternative to Labour Force Survey stats www.resolutionfoundation.org/our-work/est...

Correctly setting out why the standard allowance in Universal Credit needs to raise in a Green Paper...and then cutting it a week later doesn't scream well thought through, long-term thinking. We've been here before on welfare reform in recent years...
So @hmtreasury is forcing @DWPgovuk to find more savings, in part by cutting the Universal Credit Standard Allowance (after raising it a bit). Here's what the Green Paper said about the current position & why UC needs to rise: it's been cut so low it's driving destitution.

Big (4.99%) council tax rises are coming next month. This is particularly galling as its a terribly designed tax, and a regressive one too that hit poorer households the hardest. And yet the politcal appetite for reform is 0...
Council Tax bills are going up for many of us this year.

But the tax has become increasingly regressive: the poorest fifth of households spend over three times as much of their income on Council Tax as the richest.

New @resfoundation.bsky.social research out today finds that more than 1 million children are pushed into poverty by high housing costs. Tackling this should be a central element of the Government’s upcoming Child Poverty Strategy. Thread/

Big news that the Scottish Government has decided to abolish the two-child limit on benefit support from 2026 onwards. As RF has shown many times, this is the biggest lever policymakers could pull to reduce child poverty with immediate effect. www.resolutionfoundation.org/publications...
