somewhat related: getting too reliant on a (potentially expensive) black box tool that changes at the whim of a large corporation is not necessarily a good idea

This! Struggling (however little) means I am constantly learning, reinforcing neural pathways, finding new patterns. I’m also committing the codebase to my brain so I can think through it holistically and improve things.
The chatbot can’t do that BECAUSE IT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND SEMANTICS
i suspect people severely underestimate the negative cognitive effects of using AI tools. even for programming tasks. and even if you are someone who gets real efficiency gains from those tools; perhaps especially then

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Went in a bit of a different direction with this month's #BirdWhisperer... seemed like it was all about the eyes with this spotted owlet 🪶

This spotted owlet proved a little elusive for this month's #BirdWhisperer, but I finally committed art 😁

So this weekend, our cat Poppy has had a burst of progress with her communication buttons, after a number of months where she was using them only for a small number of predetermined requests.

Feels like I'm seeing a lot of new to Bluesky artists lately so just a lovingly and humbly offered PSA:

There is a pretty hardcore group of users here who won't repost or engage with images that don't include at least some basic alt text. Alt text = more engagement opportunities

I've recently been thinking about the different ways I engage with games in the post-game.

Outer Wilds, I revisit through the lens of watching other people discover its mysteries.

Elden Ring, I re-immerse myself through photography, mapping my wanderings into a form of travelogue.

I've spent the past couple of weeks casually speedrunning Silksong on the Switch, and today's run came to 2h2m2s, knocking a full hour off my previous personal best.

Definitely plenty of room left for improvement, but if I can get it below 1h45m I'll be delighted!
