if you are food insecure for both the humans and pets in your household there is a tool called Pet Help Finder that can help locate pet food banks nearby and other free or reduced price assistance and supplies for pets.
no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.

I survived in body alone. my soul didn’t make it out alive.
Friends, I am feeling extremely depressed. I haven’t even been lucky enough to see or embrace what’s left of my memories, my clothes, my bed, and my room in my home, as my city is still under the grip of occupation.
I feel a very, very, very deep depression.

Russian fuel shortages have been an under-recognized factor in the future conduct of the war in Ukraine.

Putin’s legitimacy has been anchored by a social contract in which Russians have been saved from the shortages that characterized the post-Soviet 90s. A return could be very politically fraught
Russian media now in a panic attempting to mitigate the fall-out from the spiraling fuel crisis, as Russians flood social media with cases of gasoline shortages.

Nice to know that targeting a billionaire Jewish person and their charity for “control” of politics is fair game, while demanding an end to the starvation and bombing of 1M kids is antisemitism…

“A friend wrote some time ago that, 'One day the Yad Vashem of Gaza will be erected' - a reference to the Holocaust memorial and museum in Jerusalem. "When I read that, I said to myself: I want to be on the team that erects the Yad Vashem of Gaza."”

The ways that we treat our dead can tell us a lot about who we are as people.

We see this both past and present through our archeology & our contemporary mourning rituals.

However, it’s also reflected in the way we treat the unknown dead that we may only be connected to through a physical space.
The initial damage when the road was cut through the cemetery is actually visible on Google Earth sat imagery, so it's possible to see it in higher resolution. Compare the imagery from May 2022 and June 2024.

For people with darker skin injured at protests, and the lawyers representing them:
The difficulty of diagnosing and photographing bruises in victims with darker skin is a consistent factor not only in delayed diagnosis and treatment, but also in smaller settlements in lawsuits.

Something I’ve been mulling even prior to the UH CEO shooting:

If you’re like me and invest our retirement money in broad-market index funds, you’ve directly benefited from the terrible behavior of these companies. UnitedHealth is the fifth largest F500 firm by market cap.

Same w/ O&G, REITs, etc.

This morning’s events in Seoul were a surprise to many of us, but I’d strongly recommend this short read to help you understand the through lines that brought South Korea to this moment.

Thanks to @heesoojang.bsky.social for the insightful explanation
I was preparing to pitch an op-ed on the nationwide protests calling for President Yoon's resignation, aiming to provide global context amid the limited international coverage.

Given the urgency, I’m sharing it now. I didn’t expect events to escalate this quickly. #SouthKorea #Democracy

Agreed, it’s a gross over simplification of behavioral analytics.

I built a system to predict behavioral patterns in the retail environment almost 15 years ago. Of course even then, the retailers wanted to use it to “identify potential shoplifters.” 🫣
