“Any arbitrary person in Europe for centuries” really can’t be the moral bar here…

Colonialism? “It’s only natural”. Pogroms? “Let’s get them”. Slavery? “It’s their place”.

Some dude encouraging a bunch of others to do dangerous things to that one dude’s benefit is literally all European history

Bring back the stockades!

Bonus points for it being at the front of the plane so everyone can make lewd gestures at the person as they get off

Kitties are amazing companions for troops at war. In WW1, it’s estimated there were a half million on the Western Front. Beyond their superb rat-killing skills, there are some incredible stories of them saving soldiers’ lives.

Why cats were the perfect companions in the trenches of WWI
Throughout the trench systems that ran along the Western Front of WWI, there were an estimated 500,000 cats. Find out why on WATM.

Not necessarily - Ukraine has been very successful with “inverting” the typical UAV procurement model using game-like points that squads can “spend” on new kit. They also have direct access to builders for provide feedback.

There are valuable lessons there

It's hard to see the Pentagon investing in a stockpile of the current crop of constantly-evolving platforms UA fields, due largely to the logistical & training complexity that entails.

Ukraine's approach works bc it's an integrated system with "pull" allocation & rapid feedback loops, unlike the US

One day these companies will learn…

Deleting incriminating evidence out of the blue is evidence tampering,

but deleting incriminating evidence on a periodic basis (w/o a hold) is a perfectly legal retention policy.

The US ATC system ought to be broken out into a federally-owned private organization (like Fannie Mae, USPS and EuroControl) as to allow it to make sustained investments in infrastructure and staffing that are impossible w/ congressional budgeting.

Never mind their lack of pay during shutdowns

At the core of the discussion is how to best serve students. It’s unarguable that the needs of students vary and that effective support improves outcomes. However, that support today is given to only the outliers.

Reasonable people will disagree whether that’s good.

I’m not sure it’s optimal.

It’s not so much a question of equity, but of resource allocation: should additional resources be provided to enrich “gifted” students or to “pull up” students that are struggling?

Today we still use the system created by Cold War paranoia and the ‘72 Marland Report, despite evidence of issues […]

What has changed is this minority feels empowered to publicly share those ideas in a way that hasn’t been seen since the ‘20s and ‘30s with the Black Hand and the Bund.

Modern developments are deeply troubling but they have to be understood as deeply intertwined with our national political history

I’m not sure we ever had a true consensus — fascistic & ethnonationalist ideas have long played a role in American politics (pre & post-NSDAP). As quickly as anti-Nazi sentiment came to a head, it was overtaken by the anti-left hysteria of the Cold War.
