This has been obvious to anyone paying attention for a long time, but renewables and electrification are destroying a lot of fossil fuel demand and will continue to do so.

And let's be clear, the Tories would not do the same. I vividly remember the massacre of Labour public appointments during the Coalition years, going down to even the most minor and niche posts.
Robbie Gibb issue is just one case where Labour has left in place people appointed by the Tories : Arif Ahmed at OfS, Kishwer and Reindorf at EHRC. Real self-sabotage.

Damn, until just now I’d managed to not have Dieter Helm’s latest misery missive sent to me. So close to making it through.

Interesting to see that the Bank of England projects inflation will drop back towards 2% over time. I do note from their Monetary Policy Report this line on uncertainties: "...or extreme weather events due to climate change were to negatively impact food production"

Interest rates held at 4% by Bank of England
Rates are left unchanged after a tight vote ahead of the Budget later this month.

This really is poorly thought through.

If you are going to do a per mile charge it should be for all vehicles. Petrol is undercharged in comparison to its negative impacts.

And it's a phenomenally bad idea to create additional psychological barriers to owning EVs.

This is very useful, timely analysis built on Global Energy Monitor data, confirming that fossil fuel companies are not meaningfully investing in the energy transition. These companies are responsible for a tiny 0.1% of global renewable energy production.

Fossil fuel companies say they support the energy transition. New numbers suggest otherwise.
A new study shows that fossil fuel companies own less than 2 percent of renewable energy projects worldwide.

This is similar to Nick Robinson’s failure to challenge Claire Coutinho’s claims the UK’s net zero strategy was not really cutting emissions. Big media figures are sane-washing radical right wing policies and completely failing to recognise the seriousness of the current moment.
Lam misrepresented her past statements in order to make her policy look less serious - “it’s only about criminals”. Exactly what Tory thinktanker Gavin Rice did when I criticised this policy on Twitter. She isn’t called on it. This is how we can end up with mass deportation by accident.
"Because those were not the conditions under which you came" is fine for commit a serious crime.

This is just a lie for: revoke past ILR to nurses

Peston says: "Sure, but that is not hundreds of thousands of people": again misinformed & misleading

The price rises in those staples is contributing 40% of overall food inflation
