And at least as important, the data that does exists supports the counter-hypothesis, in that there are an increasing number of examples in which renewables have stabilized the grid when fossil- or nuclear-fueled generation fails.

Reporters on the energy beat, please do better.

It is terribly problematic that this piece opens with: "The intermittent nature of variable renewable energy sources remains a primary challenge for grid integration and stability."

Because there is as yet no data to support this hypothesis, in the US or anywhere else.
