I've begun the 2nd book in my stupid little series, because I was stuck on the first one. Some chapter titles:

The High Priests

The Time of Monsters

The Paper Daughters

At the Crossroads

The Box in the Mountains

They Who Dream Alone

A Savage Place

The Struggle of Nations

The Dust of Empire
The funny thing about tonight’s brouhaha with MCU fanboys is that, on the same night I posted against Doomsday, I posted in favor of the MCU Spider-Men. Such nuances don’t matter to fanboys, though. You either worship every bit of the thing they serve, or you are the enemy.

Interesting. The Batman was a superhero movie made for actual adults, and it already had a stacked cast, so this would be extra icing on the cake. Hopefully DC does her better than Marvel did.

Every MCU die hard who finds my posts just makes me that much more powerful. It’s amazing how ready these people are to die on a hill in the service of Disney (and the mental contortions they go through to pretend they are noble for doing so).

When the Earth warmed by 4C over 10,000 years 76% of all animals on the planet died.

We’re on track for 4C of heating in our children’s lifetimes.

Living through the most dangerous moment in our species history, & most people have no idea.

We’re being distracted to death.

The reason the “Home” movies work is that, at their best, they show a young and irresponsible Peter slowly being forced to grow the fuck up as his problems and mistakes follow him home. No Way Home ends on just such a note, and whether Brand New Day is good will depend on that still being the case.

Truffaut doesn’t really sell the “theatre operating under Nazi occupation” aspect of this film, as that threat rarely feels real. He does sell the personal drama, however. Each character and arc feels unique and fully developed, with some surprising developments to boot. Effective, not great. 8/10.

Doomsday has a cast of 33…so far. Many of them are big names who won’t come cheap. This movie is going to need to gross $1 billion to turn a profit, and the audience for Marvel has fallen off big time. With any luck it’ll kill off the MCU and superhero movies can have independent identities again.

One Battle After Another is going to be this year’s Killers of the Flower Moon: good, but not quite good enough for all the adulation and awards it will get. I guess since they can’t bear to reward horror films, they had to find some excuse to pass over Sinners.

“You hate A.I.? I bet if you were around in 1900 you’d have hated cars for taking jobs from carriages.”

You know why this doesn’t work? Because the cars weren’t stealing the carriage drivers’ labor in order for their engines to work. There has never been anything like that in tech history.

There’s some Jeff Smith Bone art I was unaware of. I don’t know how this happened.
One of the more popular/memorable products from Kitchen Sink was a line of Bone Bars, based on Jeff Smith's independent comic series, released in 1998. The bars came in milk chocolate/almond and milk chocolate/crispy rice, and were noted for the vibrant box and wrapper artwork

One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen is going to be on The Criterion Channel this month. I am almost never put off by a movie’s content, but for once I was upset that a film even existed. It’s sadomasochistic Nazi fetish porn and nothing else. Watch it so good movies look better in comparison.

On the one hand, did they not learn their lesson with the hideous Bay-produced movies? On the other hand, it’s being handled by the producer of the Sonic movies, so there’s some half-shelled hope here.

there is no other context where you could respond to readings by

1) not citing a single reading
2) nor responding to the point of a single reading
3) writing exclusively about how you reject the point of the readings based on your own shitty politics

and have the end product defended

Look, if you DON’T want me to come up with an insane re-imagining of the New Testament as a complex political fantasy adventure, you really shouldn’t feed me caffeine then let me stay up until 3 in the morning without meds. I’m like Gizmo: don’t get me wet or strange things might happen.

I unearthed my old DVD of Shaun of the Dead, so I guess I’ll finally be watching that soon. I have a question for all seven of my followers: can I go ahead and watch it by myself, or will it be funnier if I find a viewing buddy?

And where should me expectations be? How well has it aged?
