My coworker (a tech minimalist to the extreme): why do you need a good camera on your phone? Do you really need photos?
Me: ... Have you seen clouds?

Thank goodness the TikTok ban is in effect and now no one can ever use my data for nefarious purposes.

The "why are people upset about losing a silly dancing app" rhetoric is not only profoundly incorrect and shows a lack of understanding about the platform, it also reeks of the disdain society shows for things girls and young women like. Even if it was just dancing, people can grieve something fun.

Reminder that Mitt Romney explicitly said the rationale behind the tiktok ban was pro Palestinian content. The renewed push last year was explicitly to help Israel conduct a genocide without scrutiny on social media.

Imperial boomerang in action.

Sen. Romney links TikTok ban to pro-Palestinian content

Just a reminder of some of the context around the TikTok ban: In 2020, Trump tried to ban it via executive order a couple months after K-pop fans used it to organize fake signups to Trump’s Tulsa rally, which led him to publicly overestimate how large the crowd size would be.

I'm sad and all of the discourse over here is missing the snark and sarcasm and fun of TikTok.

The fact that Tyson's has not cleared entire lanes 9 days after our snow, causing traffic to back up on the interstate, is inexcusable.

Remember when Zuck and Elon were going to fight? I think in the Colosseum for extra pretentiousness? All the Meta announcements and Zuck's podcast quotes make me think we're just in round two of that, this time using social platforms.

If TikTok actually gets banned, what I'm going to miss is: a. That people over there are genuinely helpful. I ask a question, strangers reply with useful info. B. It lets people be their weird glorious self. C. I've discovered so many small businesses. D. I've learned so much about other communities

The rush of basically every institution to go right wing as fast as possible, isn't actually indicative of a huge swing in the sentiment of their ostensible audience, it's just revealing that they kind of wanted to the whole time.
