There is no earthly reason why this abomination should have ever been conceived, let alone developed and marketed. And even less rational justification for it being so unfathomably delicious or utterly addictive.

It is crack in a bottle and must be regulated, before the whole country is lost to it.

This kind of conversation is crucial for the future success of HE, and needs to be heard.
It's a shitstorm in HE over here but we need voices like yours. I'd be delighted if you found a way back.

A conversation elsewhere has taken me back to the most difficult challenge I ever faced in my work. 26 years ago to the day I got a phone call from a lawyer asking if I would talk to them about being an expert witness in a public inquiry into a fatal train crash at Ladbroke Grove (London).

I want to add a tiny halfpenny's worth to the valid arguments of others against AI in academia.

I should maybe mention that I have regularly used Maple (a symbolic maths expert system) usually to check (and sometimes correct) something I've done by hand and that is the sum total of my use of "AI".

"rest more"
"socialise my way"
"find joy in my autistic traits"

a beautiful recipe for being
One of the best things I’ve learned as an autistic person is that I don’t *have* to live by neurotypical rules all the time

The pressure can be immense. But it’s possible to slowly change that narrative

I’m gradually allowing myself to rest more, socialise my way & find joy in my autistic traits ❤️

A world without the autistic community would be a deeply dull, depressingly dull world. We make it so difficult for them, but we would be so impoverished without them.
Yes, eugenics. Autism doesn't develop. You are born autistic. As such, funnily enough the autistic community in general are not keen to be eradicated

I want to say more about this now I've read more. It's a $50m call for applications for funding to research potential links between autism and the gut microbiome, with stated goals of identifying biomarkers for early intervention to stop autism developing
It's #spectrum10k all over again

Brilliant analogy.
Someone should ask them about pensioners - are they seriously proposing kicking everyone out the moment they reach pension age?

Er, nope.

It's no longer summer, which means that I have miles and miles of this landscape to myself. Miles and miles of peace. The loudest sound is the ravens, who keep an eye on the visitor.

I am looking to create a lab code of conduct/manual/safety check type document outlining the ethos of how we work. Could anyone point me in the direction of a good (open source) example covering safety, comms, working with others etc.? Or would anyone be willing to share theirs? Thank you!

This gives me much hope for the future of Psychology.
Over my career, I've seen many tech fads come and go (or often not go), each displacing the basic effort of theoretical clarity by something that works off laziness.
Here, the latest fad is being shown for what it is very early in its lifetime.
New preprint 🌟 Psychology is core to cognitive science, and so it is vital we preserve it from harmful frames. @irisvanrooij.bsky.social & I use our psych and computer science expertise to analyse and craft:

Twenty words that just stopped me in my tracks.
I will flood with tears - soon when I'm able to. Not for me, but for some very close to me.
Sometimes autism is wanting so badly to be a part of things but then being totally overwhelmed when you are 💔
