I've been told that one of the Actually It Has Some Uses of genAI is that it can analyze data, but it also cannot do that. Copilot repeatedly fails to tell which of two numbers is higher. It cannot analyze a dataset of two. AI is a scam. It is financial fraud

This "want" cannot be separated from the massive subsidizations of suburban lifestyles. It's been so popular over the last century because it's been so affordable. If we remove or lessen these subsidies, most people simply won't be able to afford such an expensive life & move to more urban areas.

Portland is not New York. We're better!

BikeLoud's Slack channel is discussing which of these suggested transportation priorities for Mayor-elect Mamdani could be done quickly and effectively in PDX. Our favorite answer, "All of them."

Which do you support @portlandcouncil.bsky.social?

Paris very effectively closes school streets to cars with this one simple trick, a swinging gate. These can be closed at all hours or just when school is in session. Fire trucks swing them open for easy access, as needed.

The modern conservative panic is fueled by juvenile tantrums, of people clinging to hierarchies until their fingernails are bloody because they're too contemptuous towards undesirables and offal acquiring even a shred of humanity and dignity.

But it's inevitable, and the clock will not turn back.

Street Roots has done some excellent reporting on this. www.streetroots.org/news/2025/08...

Mayor Wilson has chosen to act against the advice of experts, choosing a response to these terrible conditions that is demonstrably MUCH more dangerous than continuing the (still problematic) status-quo.
Portland’s top leader escalates homeless sweeps amid federal crackdown
Mayor Keith Wilson was elected on a platform of compassionate rhetoric toward homelessness. But sweeps have been consistently higher since he took office than under Mayor Ted Wheeler.

Removing people from tents, which may be in public spaces like sidewalks, then removing the tents and the other things there - this may certainly make it SEEM like the problem is resolved or perhaps just improved.

This is false. We must understand that this erasure worsens outcomes.

Anti-sweep people aren't a monolith, so there's going to be a variety of responses to this question, some conflicting. That said, my answer to your question is an emphatic NO.

It's not acceptable for these camps to continue, but it is WORSE to sweep them.
