When @wired.com made FOIA-based stories free, subscriptions went up.

When @404media.co published public records reporting without a paywall, new sources came forward.

We spoke to both about why dropping paywalls like this is good for journalism — and for business.

We spoke to Katie Drummond of Wired, Joseph Cox of 404 Media, and Lauren Harper of Freedom of the Press Foundation about the case for unpaywalling public records-based reporting

People that support Trump think Pete Hegseth is a clown.

Let that sink in for a minute.

How bad do you have to be for MAGA to think you're incompetent?

I wish this was the Onion I'm linking and not the HuffPo. Just fucking insanity in the WH now. They are dismissing veteran journalists with middle schoolyard insults. It's embarrassing.

They could easily stop these boats, arrest these suspected drug runners.

Instead they summarily execute them. No evidence, no trial, just death. And they are not committing a crime that is punishable by death in the US. This is a rogue administration.

If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage.

The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.”

It’s about control.

One person having the power to upend entire industries and economic sectors on a whim every day that puts companies out of business and workers out of jobs with no legislative input is an autocracy, regardless of whether that person initially acquired power through an election.

This has been on my mind since January 20. Trump is not acting like a man who has ANY concern about ANY future election(s). And I think that means exactly what we think it means.
Crow: They’re doing things that are deeply unpopular. Their approval ratings continue to go down—that is, Republican members of Congress and this administration—and yet they don’t seem worried about it.

Which raises the obvious question: what are they going to do?

Starbucks is closing stores and cutting 900 jobs in a restructuring move.

1,100 jobs were slashed earlier this year.

Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500.

Three tariff announcements tonight, each one is dumber than the last. I don’t even know how to read this except as a way for the White House to exempt US pharma multinationals (who import a lot but are always building *something*) and push out smaller foreign competitors.

How can anyone trust anything that emerges from the BLS when the person in charge of the agency will almost certainly have to come up with data to Trump’s liking?

Answer: They cannot.

Trump has destroyed the credibility of this extraordinarily important source of information.
