BREAKING - The GOP-led House put forward a ban on trans healthcare via Medicaid for all ages this week, spurring mass confusion and panic.

Myself and @madycast.com broke down the full scoop, what this bill means, and what you can do to stop it.

Ty @davidforbes.bsky.social for editing!
Don’t panic–the battle over the trans Medicaid ban is far from over. Here's how to fight back.
While confusion and misinformation spreads on social media, advocates offer concrete strategies to stop the GOP’s genocidal attack on trans people’s lives through community solidarity and defiance.

This is a really important read for many people out there, as this has been erroneously reported.

The spending bill DOES ban HRT from Medicaid, which is horrific.

It does NOT ban ACA/Private plans from covering it, as Gillian Branstetter of the ACLU lays out in her thread here.
Seeing a lot of confusion about the budget's provisions on trans care--it would strip Medicaid funds for trans care (which is awful enough) but it would NOT prohibit private insurers from providing coverage for trans care. It actually does something far more narrow and wonkier
Under the ACA, plans sold on the individual or small-group Marketplaces have to provide coverage for certain treatments called Essential Health Benefits (EHB). Only a few treatments (like abortion) are prohibited from coverage as an EHB by HHS--but insurers are not banned from covering it altogether

Update on this story: WoLF has now posted their own reply, where they share receipts from Raskin, Fetterman, and Schiff's staff saying they'd meet.

My bet is the staffers did not do their research and the main parties here were horrified, cancelled.

Despite the wave of raw anti-trans bigotry in the US and the UK, global developments point to a more just understanding of the issues -- and a more hopeful future for trans people.

TLDR: There is nothing enforceable for the immediate future. It will take months or years to implement this via rulemaking or bureaucratic changes which are then subject to legal challenge. While it's worrying, there's no immediate change yet for most trans people. Do not comply in advance.

I want to be clear about where we stand with the EO:

The battlefield is now revealed. We know the pieces on it and their plans. It doesn't mean its lost or immediate.

But Trump has fired his first shot.

Implementation will take time and challenges are sure to come. Stay strong, its a marathon.
