My dad believes the death of local politics is what killed national politics. He blames the media for that, but not in the stereotypical "mainstream media blah blah" way. Specifically, he believes the death of local papers and media disconnected communities and lowered the quality of journalism.

Getting elected despite the Access Hollywood tape basically told him he could do all this shit. Way too many people were way too dismissive of it (including many supposedly religious folks), and now everyone has to deal with fallout from their hypocrisy. The gift that keeps on giving.
