Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

My latest Guardian piece.

Until I moved to Wales, I never knew how badly it was treated.

Working at a journo it became clear that not only is Wales treated like less of a country than Scotland, but that it has come to just accept this poor treatment.

The most infuriating thing isn’t that Wales is treated as a non-country – it’s that we accept it | Will Hayward
From the the Barnett formula to the humiliation of having an English ‘Prince of Wales’, you’d never catch Scotland allowing this treatment, says Guardian columnist Will Hayward

In 1967 a much poorer Wales built over 20,000 new homes - including 10.5k council homes.

Last year we built 4,710 homes and 70 of those were council houses.
In 2023 we built fewer houses in Wales than in any year since 1946 (excl. 2020 covid year).

Lowest private sector completions since 1956.
