Quilting served as a quiet form of resistance. Denied the use of bright colors, enslaved women used scraps of fabric to stitch patterns into their bedding and clothing, preserving native African textile traditions. 145 days until Slavery Remembrance Day. #CountDowntoSRD
The Road to Freedom: Early African American Quilting
The strong tradition of African American quilting has existed ever since the dawn of America. Quilts from this period are bound into horrific acts of slavery, a reminder of the terrors that shaped the...

When I hear men worshipping guns and talking about how there’s nothing that will stop them from defending their family, my mind goes to Naaman in the Bible. Do you remember Naaman? He was a great military leader, and he also had leprosy.

In the South Jersey area? We need your help! Come help with our zipper bag drive this Saturday.

We've partnered with Flow Forward NJ to supply bags for their packing event in May. Our goal is 500, and we've received handmade bags from five states so far, plus lots that were dropped off in person.

If you're trans and the world is sparking your dysphoria and kicking your ass, remember that dysphoria is a liar and so are transphobes. You got this.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

Save the date, New Jersey! Senator Kim is hosting a statewide telephone town hall on Monday, February 10th at 6:30pm.

Keep an eye out for an 856 area code — promise it isn't a spam call. You can also tune in at www.kim.senate.gov/february-2025-town-hall/

If you're protesting tomorrow:

"I invoke my rights to silence and counsel and will not answer questions without my attorney present."

MEMORIZE THAT, because aside from asking if you're free to leave (or providing ID if you're in a stop and ID state), that's the ONLY thing you ever say to cops.

I kicked off the zipper bag campaign for Flow Forward NJ by dropping these two cuties in the basket! I've seen a few people on social media making theirs, and several local friends are participating. How long do you think it will take to get 500?

This is how you start building an indoor snowman.

I'm participating in the Quilted Snowman Sew Along with Fat Quarter Shop. As a participating blogger, I'm working ahead, and I'm here to tell you that THIS is the most tedious month of the whole thing! I swear it gets better.

I put the border on this big improv quilt top while I was on retreat. Still thinking about how to quilt it. I love it more than I expected! (Started last year at a Sujata Shah workshop with the Philly Modern Quilt Guild.)

Here's the story on this quilt from 2018: making a block a day for 100 days was the challenge. My masochistic streak decided to dye fabric for the top and then set it on point with a gazillion 1" squares and getting it all done by the 100th day. I quilted it on my Bernina. 70" x 70".
