I just submitted my book for peer review. After 15 years of thinking, researching, and writing, and, as I keep saying, an NEH this year to finish up. I’m furious about the gutting of that institution, which makes so much knowledge possible. I hope this book eventually lives up to that honor.

Increasingly when teaching I find myself dramatizing and sharing what my literary life is like: loving a book, finding out something new or shocking or unexpected about myself while reading a book, knowing or seeing writers in person, talking about books and teaching and writing with friends, etc.

I just want a literary life to be possible for my students, I earnestly do.

A while ago some of you were like “it’s all baseball on here! Bluesky has arrived!”

And today I’m like “snarky subtweets of a pretentious, hated article I’ll never read! Bluesky has arrived!!!”

Of all my posts, this is the one that I wish would be shared widely. I hope people will donate to Bryan's legal defense, but even if you don't, it's important to be aware of the human rights horrors that are going on around us on a daily basis.
Please help Bryan, a decent and hardworking person who was just kidnapped off the street in DC. He has been in this country since he was a child. He has a business and a family. He does not deserve such shameful cruelty. Please share.

Illegal racial profiling all over the place. Shredding the constitution. Absolutely outrageous
US citizen Maria Greeley, a Latina who was adopted, was walking home from work downtown when masked agents zip tied her. They said she “doesn’t look like a Greeley.” This is how the government treats people under current deportation policies.

Except for Gatsby. They’ve all read The Great Gatsby perfectly correctly and recognize that their values are accurately reflected therein.
all the Prometheus, Icarus, Palantir, Erebor, etc. shows that none of these guys - none, and it is almost all guys - have actually done the reading
