I've long found small talk is a gateway to sharing bigger ideas and building trust. The key need is to foster moments where it can happen across cultural divides. Hear my old friend @reggieharris42.bsky.social described a #BLM vs #MAGA protest standoff (full Q&A: revkin.substack.com/p/pathways-t...)

Senate Democrats asked for a year of ACA subsidies and were told to fuck off.
So they came back and asked for a pinky promise to hold a vote on ACA subsidies that they will assuredly lose?
Seriously?

From what I have seen so far this does not seem like a good deal:

Stop focusing on #climateemergency for just a moment to consider the #democracyemergency that is unfolding faster than US institutions can keep up. First Nero, now Trump (Treasury is actually pursuing this; see Dan Barry's NYT story in reply) #nokings and #noemperors.

What you're describing is what @grahamformaine.bsky.social is doing here in Maine (without fat-cat donors). And the result on two ballot initiatives proves it works (here at least).

The background reality is that no US president has the capacity to significantly tweak global emissions/temperature outcomes up or down. Big reason, as was true in Trump 1.0, the US is a shrinking wedge of global emissions and China's & India's policies are set by bigger factors than the US stance.
A slew of recent reports have tried to ballpark the Trump era's long-term effect on the climate.
But a new one from @rhg.com finds that the range of possible futures is basically the same since he took office.
Here's @emilypont.bsky.social with the story:

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
