Normally I don't like going for the "what if this problem was DOUBLE BAD" style of theory craft, as it tends to invite silly/boring concepts.
However, because Groundhog Day is already really mean-spirited to Phil, I think giving him one more nasty rug-pull feels narratively appropriate.
