I've been hired by @birdsoftheworld.bsky.social as an illustrator through the Bartels program and I couldn't be more excited to start! This has been a dream of mine for years.

My Turkey vulture has been finished for a while so I am finally sharing that too! 🐡🪶🎨 #BirdArt

Since the start of 2024, I have managed to photograph 8 of the 9 nightjar species that regularly occur in the USA. 🪶

Here is my 1st ever photo of an Eastern Whip-poor-will that was found day-roosting at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area this past May.

I've been looking for a Least Bittern for months, and last weekend I was treated to see one flying around. Last year I saw one for the first time that year on July 5th. This year, it was again July 5th for my first Least Bittern of the year. It's a lucky Least Bittern day 🍀

Re-upping this: If you are an ornithologist (ideally U.S.-based) who uses bird banding or BBS data in your work, I'd love to hear from you! You could comment as something like "a scientist from a state university" (for example) if you don't want to use your name.
Pls share: I'm seeking ornithologists willing to comment about how the Bird Banding Lab &/or Breeding Bird Survey are crucial to their research & conservation efforts, for a piece for @therevelator.org defending these programs. Reply, DM, or email me at rebecca dot heisman at gmail. #ornithology
